... he is without doubt exhibiting the signs of a dictator.

You may call it ruthless and necessary ...

Not so sure 'dictator' yet, but certainly a typical American CEO who is used to totally getting his way with no accountability to anyone.

And to all the pedants on the forum, yes I know this is virtually the definition of a dictator...

And I've just realized this thread will run and run until...

  • he is impeached
  • the next election in 4 years when he is voted out
  • the next election in 4 years when he is voted back in
  • the annihilation of the world in a nuclear holocaust
  • the thing living on his head comes out of its drug induced coma and eats his brain stem

To consider that any press in the Western world is balanced is ludicrous - it is the press that spread fear and propaganda allowing corrupt people like Trump/Farage/Johnson to grab the limelight - so dangerous!

It was Borris that started all the EU problems in the UK when he was a journalist and wrote 'untruths' about EU legislation/beauricrats.

I think you may be giving Boris more credit than he is due.  EU have been doing a pretty good job of discrediting themselves . .. largely since the introduction of the Euro.

Agree with the above, however I do feel ISIS is a western world generated threat created by our own intelligence agencies to destabilise the Middle East and continue to 'generate' wars which keeps our economies going.

He should get rid of the CIA, (MI6 just as bad!) etc rather than stop good people emigrating.

Or someone steps way over the line when commenting, someone else responds in a similar fashion and the thread gets locked.

Do you think this thread has had enough key words published in it to now have its own file at the NSA yet?

Well - from my USA standpoint things aren't getting any brighter. One thing that hasn't gotten much attention over the past few days due to the fog created by the Muslim ban and the lies about crowd size is that the Department of State has been largely emptied.

It is customary for all the career diplomats to tender their resignations when a new president is seated and then typically the new administration does not accept them and these valuable and experienced diplomats are rehired. This time it worked differently. A good number of diplomats resigned ,not to stay in line with tradition, but instead because they would not work for trump no matter how just the cause. It then appeared that the rest tendered their resignations as is tradition. This time however trump accepted all the resignations....but not really. It has come out over the past few days that these career diplomats were told that they needed to resign or be fired and that most would be made redundant any way you look at it.

So now the USA has only a few of its experienced diplomats and the vast majority of the posts are currently empty. Very soon we will have a new head of the department, Tillerson, and he will be our new secretary of state. So now we have a person, Tillerson, who has zero experience in the department he has been appointed to run and most all of the pros that could advise him and bump him in the right direction and keep him from making real mistakes, with real consequences, have been fired.

Make of it what you will. There are many people smarter than myself that see this, and the many moves like it, as a power grab that is intended to remove oversight and the normal checks-and-balances that keep a department from doing stupid stuff.

I'm hoping for the best but I'm ready for the stupid stuff.

 the lies about crowd size

From what I understand the Trump team seem to be saying the media crowd photos at the inaugurations were taken at different times of day and therefore not directly comparable; hence the unusual phrase 'alternative facts'.

It seems obvious that the crowd would be far larger in 2009 for America's first black President given his Hope campaign.

I've heard his admin say that too. The Park Service has time stamps on the photos and they are just a very few minutes apart and it's just another place where trump is lying to further support the idea that he is the biggest president ever.

Just this morning, at the National Prayer breakfast (political gathering of god fearing folk) he asked the everyone to pray for the new host of his old TV show because no one can get as good a TV rating as he had.

It will never stop. This desire to prove his hands aren't small is what gets him out of bed in the morning.

He was voted in, he deserves a chance...

I hear "give him a chance" all the time and I get that. Frankly speaking I don't know if we have any other choice. Nothing I can do will reduce his chances of success. He's obviously willing to do what he wants, when he wants, to whomever he wants and none of his party, so far, seem interested in stopping him.

No one can have more of a chance than he is giving himself right now. He is as close to being completely unrestricted as any president in the last 100 years. He's got enough rope to do good or hang himself.
