Northwarks Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I think you have to give him a chance, clearly got the 'popular' vote, not sure his America is great, build and buy American track is going to work, considering he's a business man I think he forgets the days of thousands in factories milling away has long gone. Then theres the wall, its partially there now, it doesn't work so be interesting to see how that pans out. 37 minutes ago, Kevin (Mr T) - Joint Essex AO said: Mad, in a sort of Johhny Depp/Willy Wonka kind of way.... And I totally agree with this and representing the US around the globe - cringeworthy really. For me he just lacks the gravitas of Obama, I could watch/listen to Obama, Trump just spurts rubbish in a smug kind of way, stringing words together that folks want to hear. Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Can't say warm to him as a person but I do like the fact that he speaks his mind and actually speaks for a lot of Americans who like a lot of Brits are fed up with our Political Elite almost all seem to want to line their own pockets, talk a great talk and do NOTHING. I do like that he is actually seeming to get things done and be decisive, love her or hate her Maggie did get things done and any leader needs to do that, otherwise their just watching the clock till snout in the trough time. 1 Quote
benlindley Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I love the way: He is a billionaire and has convinced people he's not part of the elite. He's a simpleton thats convinced people that he is intelligent enough to run a country. He is a misogynistic nepotist who has convinced women to vote for him. He is a populist with a penchant for switching sides and opinions to suit himself but has convinced people he is a republican. He is a multi bankrupted, indicted (for racial selection in his property dealings) buffoon but has convinced people he is a great businessman. He got less votes than Hilary but he is claiming he is the voice of the people. He is building a wall because it worked for the Nazis didn't it? When people say at least he gets things done, so did all the despotic evil dictators in history so yeah, well done to him on that. In summary, it looks like I'm on the fence.......... Quote
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I always think back to Regan the Film Star, everyone put him down, but now he is reckoned to have done a pretty good job. Time will tell with Trump Quote

Time will tell with Trump Lady Chair asked me early on why Americans voted for Ronald Reagan as President. (Bear in mind that he had also previously been governor of California, so he had one up on Trump with having political experience.) I explained to her that the office of the president depends on the person elected to be president. If you elect someone competent, they do the work, and if you elect an idiot, they have the ideas and make others do the work. It's a bit like going to McDonalds - just because the place belongs to a clown, that doesn't mean he's in the kitchen flipping the burgers. 2 Quote
jeff oakley Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 He is a polarising person but the bigger issue is the way that the media over there seem to be willing him to fail and are actively trying to do that by undermining the elector choice and ours going along with them. Take the wall, did the press kick up a fuss when Bush signed the 2006 Secure fence to build 700 more miles of fencing? Of course not it was seen as common sense. So good in fact Mexico copied it and built one between Guatemala and their southern boarder. He won because those in Washington were seen as out of touch. I saw a news program in Mexico from the states where a democrat senator was saying he had done over 500 different jobs working with the average Joe's. He said that don't ask a guy in a suit about garbage collecting, ask the guy who does it. He fully understood why Trump won as it felt that the elite had forgotten the people at the bottom. A steel worker in Pittsburgh is interested in his job, his family rather than if a cross dresser in New York is offended by someone being mean and there are more steel workers and the like than cross dressers. I have not seen yet any of his policies that are against people of all walks legally in the US, Hell he even has Blacks, Hispanics and women on is team as well as whites. HRC lost because she was not seen as the best candidate under their electoral system, all the whining about the popular vote is just rubbish. He needs to be left to get on with the job and be judged on what he does rather that what he says. 1 Quote

DamperMan Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 The electorate did not like Hilary "Goldman Sachs" Clinton. Lets face it when her opposition has insulted about 75% of the population and wins she was pretty unpopular! Quote
tisme Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 Trump reminds me of Billy Bunter - for those not old enough to remember him this is the definition from Wikipedia: Quote His character is, in many respects, a highly obnoxious anti hero. As well as his gluttony, he is also obtuse, lazy, racist, inquisitive, deceitful, slothful, self-important and conceited See what I mean !! He (Trump) has also now surrounded himself with "yes" men who will a-lick their way to survival because that's all they're worth. So no, I don't like him ..................except secretly I do I especially like the way he's steamrollered over all those lefty libralist tree hugging wet wipes that complain if your lawn mower is not carbon neutral or who stop any form of progress that THEY don't agree with (and what always makes me smile is that they complain about pollution and the environment whilst tweeting on their Chinese polluting made iPhone 6 having sent their previous "redundant" iPhones to the nearest landfill . ) There was a time here in the UK when I would have voted for almost anyone rather than the main stream crawlers - even at one stage the National Front - but I think that's how most Americans felt - "Drain the Swamp" was perhaps an Americanism catch phrase that wouldn't catch on here but I suspect many of us felt that way on 23 June last year. Let's "upset the apple cart" or "stick one up em" is something I was prepared to do and continue to do up to the point that Cameron resigned. Now, with Theresa May, we have to wait and see - much like we do with Donald trump I guess. The only difference is that I suspect "The Donald" will pay the ultimate price Quote
DonPeffers Posted January 26, 2017 Posted January 26, 2017 I found a new (to me) word---kakistocracy--meaning Government by the least qualified or most unprincipled citizens. Origin of kakistocracy. Greek kakistos Will Trump pay the ultimate price, by which I assume assassination is inferred? Plenty guns and hatred in America. Many thought that would happen to the first black President; I think YouTube, more than his policies and actions, made Obama popular. I think the world needs to be fearful of dictators with mad haircuts. http://time.com/4644651/u-s-vows-to-stop-beijing-taking-over-south-china-sea-islands/ Let's hope things calm down after a bit.
