Tyre Question/Class for 2016

 if you have e stamped tyres (avon zzr) not stamped just for racing, that are road legal and were fitted on my westfield while just this month passing an mot they must be legal to compete in my usual road going specialist production class.any tyre that is a road legal tyre is oe spec for my car as they are both road legal.i think any scruteneer would find it difficult to stop a road legal car competing with road legal tyres.or am i missing the point.

 

Unfortunately whilst everything you say is correct regarding them being roadgoing. If you look at the MSA list then there are only 2off ZZR tyres in List 1B. The rest are in 1C.

If there is a westy only class at the event ( alot of clubs do this) then surley we can run what we like and sort it out ourselves.

At places like Loton you can use list 1a up to slick in our class on the day

Personally I don't like that situation though. Call  me a pot hunter if you want :laugh:

 

Personally, as long as tyres are E marked and don't have 'For Motorsport Use Only' on them, I cant see what the problem is. Classes just need to be able to use a tyre from lists 1A, 1B or 1C

I agree John

I prefer a road/slick split

But it would get us out of a problem if a solution is a while coming

I agree Terry, won't be many road going cars wanting to compete in MSA run events at this rate !!!

IMO, FWIW a roadgoing class in, grass roots motorsport, should be populated with cars that have been driven to the event (in a road legal condition), competed on the tyres it arrived on and driven home again.

 

Anything on a trailer should be in modified or sports libre.

disagree  :no:   ok if you live local ,  in perfect weather conditions .most the events I travelled to this year were 200miles plus and some over 5hours stuck in traffic   journey times.  try doing that every weekend and see how you enjoy it. :down:

Personally speaking I'm not impressed with the MSA's handling of either the tyres situation or ROPS regulations. IMO they are creating too many financial barriers for newcomers to enter the sport and experience sprinting. If I decide to sprint my Westfield again next year I'm now potentially faced with spending at least £750 this winter to comply with the new MSA regulations :bangshead: IMO the MSA are loosing touch with the grass roots of the sport and making it more difficult for a newcomers to compete on a budget.

Clearly Gerry H you have never done a round trip from York to Pembrey of 590 miles to compete at a 2 day event. god knows what it would cost in fuel , accommodation, and wear and tear on the cars. How would you carry fuel for the event as most circuits do not sell fuel.

I don't think Gerry H was saying you can't race! just that you would be in a different class! 

 

I am a year into westy ownership and have done loads of track days and test days at sprint and hill climb track and REALLY want to race sprints and hill climbs next year but the cost and regs are really putting me off so i don't  think Gerry's suggestion is that wacky! 

 

I don't have a trailer (and never will) so will be driving to and from events and having a true road going class, bottom class, bottom of the ladder grass roots entry level would really appeal! The people in this type of class won't be driving 5 hours to events but starting out doing local events and building up from there i would imagine?

 

would be interesting to see how many people who compete at the top of the road going class actually ever use there car on the road! 

 

for me for next year if i don't have to buy a hans device and if i can use medium compound track day tyres and be competitive then i am in! if i have to buy a hands device (on top of helmet overalls etc) and then super soft tyres and spare sets of wheels (as i don't want to be driving around on super soft tyres for general driving!) then it will probably just be too expensive which will be a shame!

 

still trying to get my head around what the rules are for me and my car!

westy 2.0 zetec running in road going specialist production, playschool MSA roll over bar, 5 point harness 

 

So anybody know if i need a HANS and also with the tyres on the new 1b list which one will be the best and are they medium compound?

no hans for road going... but your question is simlar to mine and waiting for clarity from the organising team and msa

Rather than just taking this laying down would it be of any benefit if the clubs, competitors and whoever else isn't happy about this to take a stand against the msa with a petition or some other similar objection.

Even if it was to postpone the ruling for a while to give people the opportunity to use their current E marked tyres.
