Except I was doing 40mph and so was the Ducati and he was on my side of the road starting to overtake slower cars

I can appreciate now how much damage can be done even with a bike, never mind a car, being so close and hearing it hit the ground and scrape along was a bit of an eye opener   you don't realize it as much in the cacoon of a tin top

You're right, falling off the side stand could be 2 grand plus and that's not even moving.
