John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Toyota RAV4 2.2 diesel. My wife has one and its superb. 48mpg all day long Quote
Andy (Sycho) Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Personally I wouldn't touch a 10k Range Rover, it just flashes £££££ to me. We've had a Audi A4 avant Quattro for the past 6 years & that goes anywhere in the snow & never had a problem with it. Andy Quote
TAFKARM Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Unless you want to make the statement of 'Im a rich ass b*** who doesn't give a crap about the planet' I really can't see why anyone would drive a RangeRover these days, I didn't realise we'd met! Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I had a Disco 4 from one month old on a mates plus "oops i owe you a favour" rates lease. the 3 diesel version. If you did minimal town driving and kept to fifty while convoy drafting artics on dual carriageways/motorways, you could just achieve 24 mpg. Anything else dipped it to 20 and below. Worst case, after aa hundred pound fill up was getting 340 miles from a tank! Despite being four months old with just over 3 or 4 k on the clock, it still had the regular Land rover electrical gremlins occasionally. The favourite being the rear N/S window that would regularly wind itself part way down and refuse to wind fully back up again for half a dozen or so tries. Despite that, it's still my favorite tin top,I absolutely loved it and was gutted eventually when it was time to hand back. That said, I'd never have an old one, out of warranty etc, and it was ruinous to run. Oh and the local LR dealers, in fact everyone I tried in the area, without fail, were appalling. The company I had the lease from were one of the biggest single UK buyers of LR product for a few years, Disco's, RR Sports and RR; they always they might not have had quite as many problems as the really bad old days, but still had plenty. TAFKARM Posted July 22, 2015 Author Posted July 22, 2015 Sounds like I should just get her another Mini. .....and a quad bike! Quote
XTR2Turbo Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Dave Something sounds wrong there. My disco 4 will achieve over 40mpg average on the eternal 50mph sections of the M1. OK the dash display can be a bit out but using brim to brim method at the pumps I have got over 35mpg. In fact when towing it actually gets better mpg than my Vauxhall Vivaro van As an overall average for 17000 miles it is over 30mpg and that includes a lot of towing. I don't do much town mileage though. David Quote
Dommo Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 I think you need to get later into the L322's life than £10k will allow. My brother has one of the earlier ones and most trips to the garage end up over 1k. A later classic may work out to be cheaper to run... £10k on a 4x4 as a substitute for a Range Rover would probable see me in a well specced Discovery 3. Quote

By comparison, in exactly the same usage, the Volvo XC90 with D2.5 engine ID had just before used to manage 34 mpg. Though you could also be right and the Disco had some unknown economy related fault to add to its other quirk! I still miss it though, how daft is that! Quote
Arm Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Touareg Been towing a 3.5 ton trailer this week and we can either go in the car pool Range Rover or one of the Touaregs. Everyone wants to use the Touareg in either V8 or V6 diesel version. Also have use of a V6 Q5 and thats a nice place to be. Quote
Terryathome Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 CRV for me. Even in 2wd the thing was climbing hill's in the snow like no tomorrow. I even towed a few out doing my Mr nice guy impression. Quote
