Scottish Bloke
Can anyone give me a definitive answer on this please, I have a Bell RS3 Sport which is pre drilled. I have heard and read all sorts of answers relating to the possibility of having posts fitted and the correct sticker applied, sadly I can't find much which is current, there seems to be wide and varied answers on this. I will be using a HANS device this year, I need to have one in for France so have decided to go for it this year, seems crazy not to now. Any definitive answers welcome, don't want to replace my lid just yet! Rich
Barry Ashcroft
There's a thread running on uphill racers which Nick has been posting on about this very thing, it looks to me that nobody knows the answer, That lid I had off you last week is pre drilled and I'm thinking of doing the same but only for my protection on track days. AdamR
I had a pre-drilled Bell RS3 and retro fitted some posts to it. Passed scrutineering (racing not sprinting) no problem.
Scottish Bloke
Did you get it stickered by an authorised dealer Adam?? I really don't want to turn up to scrutineering at Saint Goueno to be refused
Gerry H
Loads of HANS info here http://www.msar.co.uk/info.asp?i=27 There are videos on youtube on how to drill and retro fit posts to helmets

Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
In the USA it seems to be accepted practice, but in the UK helmets with Hans posts normally have an FIA sticker or Snell SAH2010 approval. I have asked the MSA for an answer and will post when I have it. The worry of course is that if you drill to fit them and then it's not accepted, they may also not accept you using that helmet, but that is a worse case and I would like to think that most scrutineers would be helpful. But history has sometimes proved that not to be the case.
Scottish Bloke
Have now signed up to Uphill Racers and have read the thread, still 'inconclusive' It seems fine to fit the posts to my pre drilled helmet, but officially speaking it's still not properly certified which I need. I'll await Nick's answer from the MSA, otherwise it looks like a new lid :-(

Delboy
How I've read it, somewhere, stickers are only required for FIA events!
MartinH
Just a thought but are the Westfield seatbelt mounts compatible with a HANS device, I've heard of Caterham guys having their mounts modified by Arch Motors who seem to supply some sort of paperwork. I might be able to find out more. Nick's correct that retro fitting HANS posts to helmets seems to be common practice in the USA.
Nick Algar - Competition Secretary
I have now had a reply back from the MSA which is below:- Our understanding is that it is only the manufacturer or the manufacturers approved agent that can retro install HANS posts, the manufacturer will then apply the silver FIA 8858-2002 sticker to confirm they have been fitted in accordance with FIA regulations. Don;t shoot the messenger
AdamR
Haha, classic case of motorsport tax. Its only a case putting the post through a hole and screwing the two parts together...
