Captain Colonial
So out walking the dog and what do I see parked on a local street? This: Now I'm not objecting to the faded red Dodge Ram truck with a massive diesel engine and twin rear wheels...OK, maybe I'm objecting a little. What I'm objecting to is the number plate - "REDNECK". And yes, those are genuine Florida state-issued vanity number plates someone paid for, mounted front and back - I checked. This is very much like having a sign on your vehicle that says "dumb, bigoted, close-minded, moonshine-drinking, Bible-thumping, gun-toting, poor white trash on board". There's absolutely nothing to be proud of here, friends. It's not big, it's not clever and it's not funny. The only good this plate can do is let normal people give this moron a wide berth (actually, the truck also does this, but the plate makes it official). This also indicates just how rotten Florida is when the state government thinks issuing this on a metal number plate, stamped in a state prison where the non-white population will be at least 80%, is acceptable and are happy for people to drive about advertising it. To say as a transplanted American that I was embarrassed and slightly ashamed is mild understatement, but what UK-based halfwit buys this thing, ships it all the way over here, and leaves the plates on it? Sheesh. If I thought I'd get away with it, I'd nick the plates off it and destroy them. Rant over - have a nice weekend.

Captain Colonial
looks cool I'll give you the address where it's parked. A screwdriver should be sufficient to steal it and take it to Cambridgeshire, where I won't have to look at it again.
CraigHew
If it were mine I'd paint the star spangled banner over the front bonnet (or is it a hood) too...! Hope it's got dixie air-horns...

XTR2Turbo
This is very much like having a sign on your vehicle that says "dumb, bigoted, close-minded, moonshine-drinking, Bible-thumping, gun-toting, poor white trash on board". Is that really how the average American views Rednecks or is it an exaggerated city vs country dweller bias that you suggest? I always thought that Rednecks were just ordinary, hardworking rural folk tending land, forest etc. Not much different to large parts of rural working communities in the UK. If like here, they may not be particularly educated or well travelled but are simple. decent, proud and typically patriotic folk. Actually have to say I much enjoy the rural parts of America to the cities. Indeed there aren't many American cities I would bother to visit but I like the wide open country and national parks. Maybe I am a Redneck. I've certainly had a red face after a few speed series events

peet
I walked up to my Westy steering wheel in hand with an American friend of mine here in sunny Sussex and a 'Redneck' couple pounced on me with some of the worlds stupidest and plaiin rude questions about the steering wheel and car which they obviously just couldn't understand. My friend spent the next hour apologising for them, he couldn't believe they'd even filled in the passport form! Met some don't like them nor their Uncle Dad...!
