Hi - Hunting for a Westfield

Possibly have a Mazda SDV for sale. Heart says keep it head says it has to go. Was asking 9k for it at the end of last year. If you are interested then please drop me a PM.

 

This is a very nice car, well built and a great finish............

I'd agree with that Gary, IMO it's one of the best Mazda SDV's you'll find, a great spec and well worth the asking price :)

But yes, at that sort of money it is definitely good value

Saw the yellow one today. Good spec, learnt a few westifield isms (mainly about indicators etc!) and it has some storage, good weather gear. Two marks, one on roll cage and one small (cms) fracture but otherwise good nick.

It maybe the one. Going to refresh the insurance quotes and figures tomorrow.

Have Sovereign still got the BRG/yellow one with the straight cut gearbox & sticky but worn Avon's?  I went to see that one, was tempted but nothing came of it as they refused to take me for a test ride, only take it out of showroom if you've bought it!

 

PS. Abbey Wood and HQLF mean anything to you?

Yes they have that one, its still parked up next to the yellow on in the show room. 

 

As for the PS, yes they do... Was it the 'from Bristol' and 'work trip to Andover that flagged it'? - PM to discuss.

 

When I get a minute this morning I'll post about my thoughts from yesturday along with new generic Westfield questions now I have some insight.

Had a look around the car, and found out a lot of what I assume are Westfield norms I didn't know about or just the range of differences between what people have decided to do to theirs.

 

Here is a link to the car starting up in the garage, he mentioned the new test standards (IVA I assume) limit the cars to no more than 101 dB which works for me with Castle Combe and Thruxton as my local circuits operating with 99 dB limits. Everything look/sound okay (from the dodgy phone video)?

 

For this generation of engine I assume it has a rev limiter? Only I hear the old X-Flows you can set your own or not bother.

 

I'd never noticed the odd arrangement for indicators, horn etc. Looking online it is almost standard that indicators are the switch to the right of the steering wheel, then horn to the left. Didn't work out what the other one below the horn was. 

 

This car has Adjustable Spax suspension and independent rear axle. I assume it must have an LSD but don't know what type.

 

Good/stand out points of the car:

 

- Seemingly no expense spared on build, expensive leather dash, dash sill protectors on entry, 

- Lockable "Boot" with jack and wheel brace within

- Roof with frame folds from out of the boot

- Built by F1 Engineer, new engine and gearbox, less than 4k on clock

- Personal Plate (can/to be sold for extra £££)

- Has an immobilizer

- Comes complete with build portfolio including original owners hand book, build manual, full parts listings and prices, operation guides, spare keys, V5C log book and current Mot until September 2014 with no advisories.

 

Bad Points:

 

- The roll cage has some marks behind the drivers seat, almost looks like someone had an electric sander, slipped and took some mm off.

- Very minor crack in one part of the body work but less than a cm and a minor fill/respray would fix.

 

 

 

As for more generic questions/thoughts:

 

Servicing - Been told its generally annual, and clearly this time of year before its used and after it could have been parked up for a while is best. Recommended to take to a specialist? Who knows whom that maybe in Bristol/Bath/Gloc area? I know Caterham have a garage just off the M5. Mainly thinking (1) get the job done right (2) keep the service history good for residuals

 

Insurance - Had a quote from Adrian Flux only so far, any other recommendations? I see A-Plan is on the menu.

 

Range - They have a 27 ltr tank from what I can tell/read. Average 35 MPG (but say 30) so can do roughly/safely 175 miles on a tank?

 

Fuel - As its only a standard 1800 Zetec I assume 95 RON is the norm? Only if you start going down the tuning route would premium be better?

 

 

Going to find out some specifics from the dealer. Mainly to do with their customer service, after sales and have a full run through of the operation of everything (to check it works and for my understanding) and take it from there.

27 ltr tank on mine is not baffled so I get fuel starvation on long right handers after about 100 miles

If you jack both rear wheels off the floor then turn one and watch the other

If it turns the same way lsd fitted

If it turn the opposite way it's a standard open diff

It's worth 2 mins to check lsds are not cheap :(

- Very minor crack in one part of the body work but less than a cm and a minor fill/respray would fix. I'd be surprised that it doesn't have more small cracks .. it's the nature of gelcoat.

Take the miles covered prior to refill and divide with the litres required to refill to give to an average comsumption. You can always convert the litres to gallons first if you're old skool! Personally, I think 30mpg is a bit optimistic..

Its just shaped rather than being a blank plate of carbon/metal across the dash so has a bit of 'luxury' as far as these cars go.

Not at all, but its got the potential to be sold to pay for something more useful.

Its just buffed so structurally sound.
 
 
You don't need a specialist to do your sevicing - do it youself! If you're not mech savvy, I'm sure other Club members in your local area will be more than happy to assist and guide you through doing it yourself. It's one of the beauties of owning a kit car!

I just didn't know if it was better to have it 'stamped' like a normal car. Owners generally keep all receipts for their cars .. and I mean ALL! :laugh: There's slight differing advice on here regarding general annual maintenance. Some say 'drain oil at end of season, jack up car, wheels off and cover car', others will say 'keep end of season oil in, turn car over on regular basis throughout winter, drain and refill oil as part of your prep for new season come Springtime'. Personally, when I buy oil and filter, I'll write on the receipt when I've done the oil change including the mileage! I've kept my receipts for all sundries such as coolant, spark plugs, etc on top of all other receipts ;)

I used to do that guess work with an old jap car I had. I suspect it's a 'standard' VDO guage - there's a small rubber covered button bottom centre of the guage. Press this once to bring up the trip and press and hold it again to zero it. :)

I'll check the receipts I get (on whatever car I buy) and try to continue to follow suit. I'm not going to keep fuel receipts tho! I have seen some people do that tho which seems a bit OTT.

 

It is a VDO Gauge, the pictures I took aren't that clear so couldn't see that. Sounds like I am prepped now - just waiting to hear from the garage.
