not sure tbh. need to know what to do to diagnose the problem. will speak to blink as they know all things about the mx5 engine :d

just hope it's not an expensive fix :(

just found that on the search - it didn't look like that when I took the head off :-/

will mull this one over. at least the car wont need much use this time of the year :d

Have you got the plastic restrictor in the camcover breather pipe?

Also hVe a look in the back of Rods manual, I think there may be some suggestions there

mine goes to a catch tank with the pcv valve blanked off. absolutely zilch in the catch tank.

If memory serves me right I think Rick (tigbrother) had a problem with oil loss on his once, which was on his blog. Not in front of my PC today so can't link you to it. Mark will probably have a link for it

When we was following you last night Bob and I could smell burning oil when you accelerate so I think a compression test is first on the list.  Gauge is in me garage if you want it.

here's what's going on (ignore the fast idle, IAC valve mapping needs tweaking) :(

has that tapping got worse

 

are they hydraulic tappets if so are they getting enough oil pressure 

 

exhaust colour looked a little white at one point is your head gasket ok.

 

is the timing still ok or has the belt jumped a cog.[tapping]
