martyblues
Not wishing to contradict the above , however I recently refilled my can (7" x 80cm) with this acoustafil from thermal velocity, the chap I spoke too at thermal velocity recommended 1 metre to do the job? pete g
marty it comes in different lengths .I managed to get 3mx 0.7m metre in mine the calculator said 2.4m but was recommended 3m by them for motorsport. people will have to decide for themselves how much to fit. it did seem a lot compare to there photos.[[seems quite now fitted] how does yours compare

Yes agreed, only made the point, because the people selling the stuff suggested less rather than more. Which has p******** me off because I would have rather had the job proper from the start.Might have some more put in mine, trouble being the original stuff will have expanded by now. Rab (bombero) Reid
I recently had an very interesting conversation with a very nice chap (I wish I could bl**** remember his name, but he was a manager, that much I do recall) at SaveGuard: http://www.saveguard.com/exhausts/acoustafil2.htm who are the UK supplier. "Admittedly, the pictures don't quite do any favours but serve to prove a point how the material expands to take up the space" was how he explained the images provided by the manufacturer. I've heard that the calculator on the ThermalVelocity website was a little 'off' in the past but AFAIR, this has been rectified. To be sure, I would suggest a call to SaveGuard with your dimensions (mention the WSCC forum ). FWIW, my can is 27" x 6" with a 2" inner and I was told that I needed 0.8m by ThermalVelocity but corrected by SaveGuard, who said 1.84m (to be precise)
martyblues
Thanks MrBombero, you have confirmed my suspicions. I felt things were not right when doing the job, but went on the info provided. Guess next time it will have more of a fill.
Tom Frankland (T3OMF)
isn't it the more you can get it the quieter it will be in away? or do you really need to the exact length?
martyblues
isn't it the more you can get it the quieter it will be in away? or do you really need to the exact length? That would now appear to be the best way to go
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
No, if you over pack it starts becoming less efficient
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
The tricky bit is knowing how much is right! Too little, it's nosier than it needs to be and the same if too much. I'd have thought/hope you'd have a reasonable leeway between the two though! NB This was a big issue with the very first batch of silencers in the very first bulk buy, many years ago. The initial five or so to be delivered had, I suspect been filled by the "new lad", (after being beautifully Tigged by an expert), and were just rammed tight with filling. I removed enough to do at least two silencers from mine! Much, much, better after that.
martyblues
We seem to be going round in circles here, so it would appear to be a black art!! While on the subject I thought my phone app noise meter was a bit optimistic when it registered 98db, in the garage, Then found out it only registered up to 98db ha ha
