I can only comment on what I've managed.

12.77 is as fast as I have managed (with an accelerometer - 13.19 at Santa Pod) and that was letting the tyres down and all that jazz.

I reckon around 12 for a light driver who's on the ball,..... maybe even a delicious sliver under?

No way Midds.  To go from 13.2 to 11.9 would require about another 50HP.  A lighter driver is hardly going to make any difference.

No STi is ever going to do 9.8 with only 400HP.  The Mclaren F1 did 11.1 with 630HP and it only weighed 1000kg.  I have seen plenty of 500HP 4WD Cosworths in the mid 12s.

People just do not understand 1/4 mile times and the significance of seemingly small improvements.

Cheers,

Ian

Was covered on both TV and one of the car mags (Jap performance - I think).

Yep, and they did have the article reproduced on their website, so you might be able to find it on there.

I'm sorry Gary it is not physically possible for a 1200kg car to do 9.8 with only 400HP.  Either you have made a mistake, the car was running a LOT of nitrous on top of the 400HP or something else.  Please point me to the magazine or some more info on this car.

Colin McRae's Focus at around 1100kg and 300+HP can do 0-100mph in 9.X which would be a high 12 second quarter.  Alistair McRae's Hyundai WRC did a high 12 at Santa Pod too when featured on Top Gear.

Paul Marston's Plymouth Prowler drag racer can only do mid 9s with 1200HP and it is far more suited to drag racing than an STi.

Come on Midds, anybody can drive in a straight line, surely

So you put a 12st driver in your car.  You change the power to weight ratio by 8% which would give a 12.8 with the same driving style.  Another 0.9 seconds is till a HUGE margin.  Are you missing gears on the way up the strip

Maybe the WSCC should organize a day out at Santa Pod next spring.  We did it with the se7ens list before and it was a great success.  We had about 50 cars there and around 30 of them made passes on the strip.  And the fastest car was an R500 that did 12.0/117.  We all know that has a better p/w than a MegaBusa.

Do you realise how hard these bike engined b*******s are to get off the line, I can't do it for love nor money?

Anyway, I found these on the internet:

.....below I have posted the results for cars I have seen run on drag strips. there seems to be a lack of expensive metals at the top:

.........*snip*........

11. c******m R500 Superlight - 12.03

.........*snip*........

17. Westfield Megabusa - 12.18

Not too far away? I'll never get there, but recently they ran a 3.48s 0-60 in a Busa, anyway, it's good fun and provided I don't break my car, I'll carry on (believing that one day I'll get there - don't spoil my dreams).

Ian, that sounds like a good plan.  Not sure when the Run What Ya Brung dates are for next year at Santa Pod but I'd be up for it.

Some time around May perhaps ??
