Ian K's S2000 build thread & life there after!

Hi Yesterday I bought a 48K engine and gearbox (+loom, ancillaries etc). I was able to compression test the engine and hear it running too. Car was a 2004 plate. Car had light damage to passenger side (looks like it had spun). One of the half shafts was out so couldn't move the car under it's own power. Though all gears tested as okay with no load. Oil was clean, coolant and air filter looked healthy too. Four good same brand tyres on car too, so looks like it had a good life until it spun! No timing chain rattle on cold start up either! Based on how nice Lloydox's car looks. I've gone for white body with black cycle wing and rear carbon effect stone guards. My spec so far is: wide track, front and rear roll bars, LSD, performance brake upgrade, Protech Shocks, Sports Turbo seats (black with white piping), black harnesses, black wheels, digi dash, MSA half cage, FW rear body and diffuser, powder coated panels. I've taken the lazy option of having the factory fit the panels, brake lines and fuel lines. Kit due for collection late Jan 15 / early Feb 15.
  2. I quite enjoy trawling YouTube looking at the various kit car videos and I started to subscribe to MK recently. It's interesting to see the similarities and differences in engineering solutions between our Westfields and their Indy's. Generally the Indy now seems to mostly run mx5 (n/a or turbo) or bike engines, but a few are running the S2000. Next week they are doing a weight comparison on the F20 on standard gearbox with a K20 on a MX5 6spd (with new adapter plate) that some might find interesting. The mazda 'box is definitely a lot slimmer up to the bellhousing but I'm not sure how they are solving the height challenge with the K20... At the end of this week's you can see the two boxes side by side.
  3. Hi all, Does anyone have any guidance posts or videos/images and process to shorten the Honda S2000 gearbox down? Muchos Gracias Andy

Mega S2000 Build - By Andy

Well for years I have been after a hobby and to build we Westfield. I first thought of building a SEight. I got the engine, I build a dedicated 52sqm garage. My wife then wanted to move, that was eight years ago. I then got my new house extension sorted and finally I managed to build my new garage, dedicated to an unhealthy obsession with Volvo R cars and a new project. The mega S2000. This is my stage four S60R at nordschleife. I almost purchased a kit whilst at Stoneleigh, where I go every year. In talking to some folk who have built, they advised to go straight to the starter kit and go from there. I did just this, but I found a kit from @Rednop1 and made my way to secure the purchase. Top chap, really friendly, yet to assess his tea making skills. The kit I have is as follows: Westfield Mega s2000 starter kit Full set of fw bodywork with v8 bonnet in the new Ash grey colour Bespoke Westifeld Mega s2000 chassis 3rd gen front widetrack Nylon suspension upgrade front & rear Chassis panels have been powder coated black Chassis was powder coated at the factory Lowered floors Cage mounts pre welded to the chassis Mega s2000 lower steering column Included in the sale below are extra parts which I have purchased Ford sierra 3.62 7" lsd (used) Westfield front uprights Westfield alu front hubs Westfield Propshaft Westfield Fw Fuel tank kit Westfield Msa bar Westfield Protech front and rear shocks and springs Pro race rims gloss black 2x rear 8" 15" 2x front 7" 15" Westfield chassis loom Westfield sport turbo seats black with orange piping and diamond stitching Westfield front Race brake Package(black) <- Now swapped for AP Racing Brake Kit - Hoping these are an upgrade on my previous set. Westfield rear hs brake calipers(black) Westfield full exhaust system with Carbon silencer Since then I have also bought: 56,000 mile S2000 Engine, Box and Loom Radtec Extreme Radiator New OEM Clutch Carbon Light Surrounds Indicator Pods - Although I am reading that I should consider indicators that are under the lights New Spark Plugs Reduced Serpentine Belt Renewed Rocker Cover and Coil Cover (Orange and Black). Spoon Sports Gear Stick Selector Sump Baffle Decat Pipe Land Rover Indicators (IVA Compliant) Steeringrack 2.2 turns Some Carbon Fibre upgrades Litterally no building done to date, just parts aquisition. I'm reading with eagerness your build @Si.Dalziel and keen to get any advice or even a little help. Here we are with the orginal chassis: here we are with the bodywork on the car: These are the parts supplied withe the car when I picked it up from Ash: Shiny Radiator Nice Sport Turbo Seats I guess you could say I cheated a bit as the car was rolling chassis stage. The car had all the suspension fitted and the rear differential along with the fuel tank and westfield loom. Shiny new rear calipers fitted Here is the diff In properly: Fuel tank installed: Bodywork shots up next: Front of the car with an engine shaped hole: Front suspension going in: Running the brake hoses Westfield loom going in: I then got my mate to drive me down to pick the car up with the new garage build and loads of room in there (there isn't now)..... here are a few shots of the car in her new home: Looking good already..... I love the colour and I don't think there are many like it around. The gorgeous FW rear: The front calipers were the race spec Hi-Spec calipers. I really wanted to have the APs and I found some for sale, so I part-exchanged them and had the new set ready. AP racing - These are supposed to be fantastic brakes: I then bought the engine from @Tom (T3OMF) - Cotswolds AO who is a top chap, had a cuppa and transported the parts back to sunny but cold Derbyshire:

Which LiPo Battery for - Mega S2000?

Hi folks, I am looking at batteries, conditioners and associated tray to mount a battery on my build. I was looking at getting an Odyssey battery for my car, however, if they are cost effective I may just go to LiPO instead. Pros and Cons? Where best to source and of course what model would be best to put in my mega s2000? Thanks for the help! Andy

Mega S2000 interwarmer and ECU Temp logging- do I need a splitter plate?

Given I've not got an imaginative bone in my body and I like all things shiny, the next mod I'm shamelessly planning to copy is DaveMK1's air inlet splitter plate to feed the air filter with ambient air rather than air that has been mostly heated by the radiator seen here: It's also been copied and improved with gold foil by CraigHew: Today I've had the great pleasure of an early morning two car sortie round mid Wales courtesy of the excellent guide that CraigHew is. Before I left Craig's to head home, I hooked up my laptop to my unlocked Omex 600 Ecu and set it up to log air inlet temp, throttle position and engine RPM. Here's the quick log recorded with the car stationary. As you can see the inlet air temp dropped slightly on throttle opening as you'd expect. I then logged the hour run home to capture this: Zooming in you can see: Disappointingly given today's nice weather with an ambient air temp of circa 18 degrees C, my engine is been fed air at circa 42 degrees C most of the time. Is this due to the standard Honda intake manifold and throttle body being heated by coolant (Yes, I know you told me to disconnect them permanently Lloydox when I was having coolant tank issues). Is it heat bleeding from the cylinder head or is it because most of the inlet air has been heated by the radiator? I'd really appreciate Andy (Sycho), Dave (Gadgetman) or Stu (FinkAngel) who have also got unlocked Omex Ecu's to record a similar log to see if it's the water heating that's to blame. CraigHew's Ecu isn't unlocked so we can't log his and I don't think DaveMK1's is unlocked either. I'm going ahead with the splitter plate mod and ordering the K&N air filter and some pipes. No engine will thank you for warm air! Comments please?

Westfield MegaS2000- Omex ECU serial data enable request

I've been trying to convince Omex without success so far, to enable the serial data port on our 630 ECU, which will then enable those of us with a Dash2 to display ECU parameters on the dash. This would also mean I can loose one of my 3 water temperature probes! It's not so much that they don't wish to do it, it's just they would need to test it etc and the more of us that require this may help my cause!
  13. I've been planing to remotely locate my S2000's oil pressure sender for a while and also incorperate a low pressure dash warning light. This easy job involves unscrewing the sender unit, inserting a length of suitable braided hose into the sender location on the engine block and attaching a suitable T piece to locate the sensor and a low pressure warning light sensor. Pushed the car out of the garage this morning into the sun to start the job telling wife @'d be done in an hour, 2 tops. To cut a short story even shorter, the sender snapped off as soon as I touched it with the spanner leaving the threads flush with the block. Got my trusty left hand thread screw removers out but the remover snappe off flush also.... tried cutting a small slot across the threaded piece to get a screwdriver on it, but it wouldn't budge. tried vrious screwdrive, right-angled adapters etc and still couldn't move it. I then called @CosKev for his thoughts, and he kindly brought his welding gear round to my house and welded various nuts bolts and even a spanner to the thread in an effort to sbreak it free, All attempts failed, Clearly access is poor, which is 50% of the problem I think. Anyway Kev had to leave for domestic duties but left the final nut welded onto the thread/block. So plan B, and maybe plan C. I'm happy the snapped thread inside the OEM port is oil-tight (given the snapped screw remover and then the external welding. I'm contemplating a sandwich plate to locate between the oil filter and the block (that's plan B) Plan C will come into force if anyone can steer me towards another location that I can take off, using suitable fittings and adapters, the S2000 oil pressure. I'm currently researching the Vtec sensor location as a possibility but I'm unsure at the moment whether that would be suoitable So, any ideas @IanK (Bagpuss), @Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Secretary, @Andy (Sycho), @Tom (T3OMF) - Cotswolds AO or any other S2000 owner / guru (apart from the sage advice to have left well alone) really appreciated.. 🙁

    FW S2000 at Siltech

Which lucky SS competitor's car is currently at Siltech Racing having their lovely suspension fitted all round? It would be great to see some pics on here.
  15. Morning all ! I have had an interest in building and owning a Westfield for around 15 years but life has now provided me with the opportunity to carry out a build. Looking for a little advice really ! I will be buying a new kit from the factory and cannot decide wether to go for a mega 2000 or Classic special edition.... What are the tuning options available if I go down the zetec route with the Classic ? Where do people source good quality S2000 engines and gearboxes ? The Westy will be replacing some two wheeled fun so it needs to be fast and capable on some longer adventures. If you have any suggestions as options I should spec when placing my order that would be really helpful. Regards Mark

    Battery Options

I don't want to start any fights, but what battery would people recommend? I've been thinking PC680 but it's not the cheapest. There are a bunch of 51913-sized batteries listed here: https://www.tayna.co.uk/51913-Motorcycle-Batteries-G83.html The CCA ratings seem to vary a lot although I gather this is partially as different standards measure it at different temperatures, making it hard to compare like for like...

    Battery Cable to Starter

S2000 builders, do you run your positive lead to the starter along the left side of the engine bay or with the rest of the wiring around the right side? Do you know what length the cable is? I can't find any info on this in the manuals or on the forums

Change from TPS to MAP for the Alps etc

I've enjoyed reading Peter Russon's excelent write up about his trip to Spain, in which he mentions changing from TPS based load map to a MAP sensor based map to cope with the higher attitudes seen on such trips. I'm curious how my fellow S2000 powered owners such as @Terryathome and @Tom (T3OMF) - Cotswolds AO have faired on similar trips to altitudes not usually seen in the UK?

    James' S2000 build

Hi all, I made the trip up the factory last week to pick up my S2000 kit. I owned a second hand Marlin Berlinetta some years ago, but this is my first build. Having unpacked and catalogued during the week (there is loads missing), I started building today and had a pretty productive day. The first four panels are on, the loom mounts are in place and the loom is very loosely in too. I have come up against a couple of issues though, which seem mostly to be problems with the manual. E.g. the manual shows the rear end of the loom going passenger side first, then across to the drivers side, but the loom has offside lights before nearside, dictating a different run. The one that is bugging me though is the fuel line run. The manual states that the fuel lines start at the drivers side bulkhead then run parallel to the brake line along the bottom of the tunnel. However the S2000 intake manifold is on the passenger side, so can I assume that the manual has simply not been updated from the Zetec version and that I should go with my instinct and run brakes on the drivers side and fuel on the passenger side? Any advice on avoiding the gearbox mount would be appreciated too. Thanks James

    What kit to go for?

Hi! New member from Sweden here and i recently found this great site. Im very keen on building my own Westfield and has set it as a goal in life Don't really know what type to go for as a stumble between a Meg S2000 as a former hondafreak or go with bike motor. Will mainly use it on road but of course track it a few times a year. Any hint or tips on how to think when choosing object? Very new to car work so nervous on if/how to fix building one but as i said its a dream and a way to prove to myself that im not that bad in handy work as i always thought! Sorry for long post

Steve's S2000 Build in the USA

OK, time to open this build thread. Ordered a Mega S2000 last summer and it should finally be arriving this week, having spent what seems to be an eternity sitting on the dock in New Jersey. Was hoping for it to be here at the beginning of the month to coincide with 2 months of leave to build it - best guess it will arrive on Friday and then I am off to New York for a week, so won't be able to get to it until the end of the month. Oh well. Will be looking forward to insight from others who have built LHD versions - I took a look at the first half of the build manual, which still doesn't seem to be complete, and the fist thing I see is it is missing the vertical dimension for the location of the centre of the hole for the steering column in the driver's footwell end panel. Does anybody have that measurement? - the manual says this hole should be drilled sooner rather than later, but it's a little difficult to do when you don't know where to drill it. I am building it primarily as a track car but am interested what others' experience has been titling and registering in the US - I know that requirements differ from state to state and you can register almost anything in Arizona, but I am wondering if the lack of windscreen and wipers causes any problems (perhaps they won't notice).

    S2000 query

Hi guys, I'm looking into building a Westfield and current preference is the S2000. I've searched the forum and found a few bits relating to my query but no definitive answer as yet....... Now the Omex TB kit is out does that mean that post 2006 fly by wire engines are an easy option for this build? I've seen people thought maybe it would but are there any hard facts on this now? Thanks, James

  25. Having replaced my factory Omex ECU with an AEM Infinity II I have the original unit for sale, along with harness and applicable sensors. ECU has been reflashed by Omex to be accessible, so you can alter mapping, parameters etc. to your heart's delight using the MAP4000 software downloaded from the Omex website. As new, only 1,500 miles on the car. Price is negotiable, but direct from the factory it is £1,261.71, so no silly offers, as I have just spent significantly more than that on the AEM unit and tuning . . .
