December 2020
December 5th, 2020
Spend: £0.00
Using the cardboard templates, and having measured it over and over, I 3D printed a little template that will allow me to transfer the hole for the rear stays onto the composite aluminium panel I ordered for the boot lid.
Also threaded the brake light cable through the roll bar

Long day in the garage cutting the boot lid. A week later than initially planned, but it had arrived damaged, so I was waiting for the seller to respond to my concerns.
The 3D printed templates worked perfectly.
The composite aluminium panel can be cut with a sharp blade, and is very easy to shape (but time consuming!).

Got new reverse and fog lamps delivered as well. Going for that purple/black look
Just the rear light units to replace now.
Then it was back to the boot lid creating the harness mounting points.

Removed the protecting film, and it was clear that a few scratches were visible, so have arranged for the seller to send me a new panel. I'm not going to wait for it though, as I've got some black paint that I can use on it.
We'll see tomorrow how they turn out.

I was slightly disappointed to discover that they dried up more grey than black. Got new paint from Toolstation and am trying again.
This looks better already, but I find it hard to get a nice even coat.

Another coat of paint

Spend: £0.00
Yet another coat. If this doesn't cover it, I will never get it right. I hate spray painting. Won't see the results until 2021 as the weather is going rapidly downhill and time has to be spend with the family over the Christmas period.
