I don't understand what they are saying! Maybe we need to see the full text which will presumably only be available when we have the blue book for next year? Maybe Nick can explain? I do however see that the Khumo V70A is still in list 1B, so if the super soft ZZR is no longer available to us in road going classes, then we revert to using the super soft V70A, I should think.

 

Not necessarily.

 

List 1B states: Ecsta V700 (including V70A) (OE Fitments 215/40/17 only) 

 

Otherwise, 1C

I would have thought the 1990 issue could be resolved by within the speed series.

 

Think the thing we will have to wait for next is to see if the WSCC four year 1B rule that's in the speed series regs remains unmodified, if so and I understand correctly I could enter next year on the day as modified-production using existing ZZR 1C tyres but still run in class E for the WSCC.

I am completely confused.

 

I thought E marked meant road legal in UK at MOT as passed design and construction regs so as ZZR is emarked it is road legal even though sold as competition only to avoid the need for a numpties sticker.

 

In effect next year we carry on as we were but just replace 1b with 1c ?

All rather contradictory (and confusing) on the Avon site:

 

 

“The Avon ZZR design brief was immense. “To develop the fastest dry weather, track orientated, road legal, E-marked race tyre in the world”.

 

This tyre is intended to be fitted to vehicles involved in motorsport competition and not intended for non-competitive road use.

As I see it:

  • List 1B, Emarked tyres without "for competition use" on the sidewall.
  • List 1C, Emarked tyres with "for competition use" on the sidewall

The question is what are the organising clubs going to allow us to use in the various classes?

Don't rush to do anything yet. I am still working on getting further clarification as to what Championships can and can't do. Further speculation right now is pointless as soon as I have something I will let you know.

Awww... I quite enjoy the pointless speculation, jumping to conclusions, nagging the CompSec for info he hasn't got yet, and complaining when answers don't come quick enough or someone's bought stuff before the final rules are out.  You're no fun any more. :p

Its almost our own fault that we are in this situation. We lobbied the MSA to convince them to allow 1Bs to remain instead of just 1As earlier this year without thinking that they would remove our favourite 1B tyres from the list and stick them in 1C. We should have perhaps had more care about what we asked for

Nice idea John, but they were 2 different committees so that wasn't what happened. As usual the real fault is with the EU and it's tyre regulations !!!

Just to add another perspective - my dad and I are going to sprint a classic mini in the DEWS club series next year - the only tyre now available to us is a Falken ze912 or Yokohama a539 to fit our 12" rims, both list 1a tyres. There are no 1b tyres available in 12".

We already bought two sets of wheels and one set of yokohama a048r tyres ready for next year, but these are now useless to us. It is incredibly frustrating that this decision seems to have been made "broad brush" without any consideration for the spectrum of cars that compete in our sport. How is it safer for us to run road tyres in a competitive environment? It's certainly not cheaper as we now have to buy a whole new set of tyres.

I realise this has nowt to do with our club, but just thought I'd share the impact across other competitors.

The DEWS committee meet tonight to discuss this further, so we wait with baited breath!

Windy if I knew I would say. Round and black does me. All the major tyre companies are on the MSA Tyre Committee so it's their influence that had decided the lists. But why I don't know. I'll catch up with TOYO Alan and ask him soon.

 if you have e stamped tyres (avon zzr) not stamped just for racing, that are road legal and were fitted on my westfield while just this month passing an mot they must be legal to compete in my usual road going specialist production class.any tyre that is a road legal tyre is oe spec for my car as they are both road legal.i think any scruteneer would find it difficult to stop a road legal car competing with road legal tyres.or am i missing the point.

It depends if they comply with the supplementary regs for: (a) the organiser's class which you enter on the day in question, and (b) the regs for the championship (if any) which you are entered in.
