I sent my son home from a restaruant where I was celebrating my 60th birthday with family and friends, he turned up in his favourite Chelsea shirt and trainers. He had a moan that I can't tell him what to wear now he is in his 30's, doesn't cut it with me. He did come back later suitably dressed but missed his starters, which was my fault of course.

I took the little one to the park the other day (not our usual one) but as I got out of my car and walked to the gate, I was greeted by a goldie looking chain family. The Dad was wearing jeans two times to big for him, hanging off his knees. A t shirt, body warmer, and a massive cap on his nut. The Mother looked just the same unfortunately! They had about 13 kids with them, and the mother was shouting at the top of her voice 'she is doing my f*****g head today, get here you little b******d! Lovely I thought, and wanted to say something but I was worried the mum might come and beat me up!

It's just shocking that people are getting into this state, you can't blame it on the economy, it's just simply lazy and a lack of respect to themselves and everybody else!

rant on...

my pet hate, youths wearing  trackies  caps and the likes, they  should be banned from public areas and only allowed to be put on while in the gym and worse still older people wearing the same stuff walking round towns,  theres a time and place  !!!

Call me old fashioned but Ive always refused  to go out with my kids unless they are dressed smart, Ive educated my oldest 2 sons now and they even ridicule there mates turn out in gym wear so hopefully things are on the turn !! and dont get me started on Onseys, I was in the post office taxing a car last week and a girl came in on benefit day wearing hers dragging her two screaming brats with her  , she stunk of BO and fags  I could have barfed the reek off her, poor kids dont stand a bl**** chance :-(  Ive even seen them come in in a dressing gown and slippers goodness me !!

If you go into Primark and see what you can buy new clothes for there is no need in this day and age for anyone to be scruffy and a bar of soap and shampoo isnt a deal breaker as mentioned its a self respect thing.

oh and what also amazes me is I would say 80% of the non working/unwashed /Jeremy Kyle candidates I see walking around pushing last years fun on wheels complaining about having no money and the world is against them seem to have the budget to smoke their heads off and get down the pub all weekend. amazing

You can take the people out of the slum but you can't take the slum out of the people.

Sadly some peoples income and lifestyle is not as we would expect and to say there is no need to be like "they" are is rather flawed. If you stand out in your own environment you are a target and some people know no better. I don't like the swearing in front of the kids and general behavioural issues and the kecks hanging off the ar*e is laughable. But we have been heading for a serious divide in this country for quite a while, the haves and the have nots. It will all end in anarchy unless the kids of the scallies break free and become stricter disciplinarians than they need to be. Unfortunately its a financial trap which they probably feel they are stuck in, like the no job but still smoking, drinking and paying for sky TV etc. The designer clothes we are all brainwashed to expect soon drop off the list of priorities and the tracky bottoms become the uniform. The Credit card society seems to be dropping off now but the impact will take years to sort and getting the mindset of the generation who have been on the roller coaster sorted will take many a year but not a slong as paying the debts off, oh and making the banks shed loads of cash. Soap box away now.

Top marks Soot1e I would have done the same

Tex I have disciplined people for that at work. It is unfair on others and as we expect a certain standard which they knowe about from the handbook we are within our rights.

I am gald it is not just me anyway.

I'm not that fussed about what people wear on their own time. Helps to spot the muppets! I'm sure most of the kids you see at the bigger car shows with half of their boxers on show above the skinny jeans will get over it by the time they turn 30.

My one hate is what most of these people think they can come to work in. Our dress code is smart casual, which for 90% of the chaps means some smart trousers and a shirt with some shies. No suits or ties and gives plenty of scope to be 'individual' Not asking too much is it? Apparently it seems so. Our customer ops department (the boys and girls answer letters and do other fairly menial stuff, and indeed where I started) seems to be full of kids with polo shirts done up to the top button, black jeans halfway down their A*** and some hipster glasses. The women often dress like they are on a night out (or working in a red light district). All these guys are probably temps, and good workers can't be that hard to find I'm sure. I'd give them until next pay day to sort themselves or they will be gone.
