langy
Jeff, I have a GoPro 960 HD does the trick, but no external mic socket, so don't buy one of those ! With regards to SD cards, I bought a 32 (might even be 64gb) class 10 Sandisk Xtreme, cost about £35 ish and I have never used anywhere near 50% of the capacity. Find out what the battery life is, and how much it would record for on a single full charge and how much memory that would use. No point in buying anything bigger IMO. GreigM
You need a gopro 2 to have a mic input. Just be aware that the case you'll get with it doesn't have a hole for the mic - so you'd need to buy a "skeleton" case, and then you can't use it in the rain cos it gets wet! As for the various editions - surf/motorsport etc - the camera is always the same, you just get different mounts.....
Ciprian
Can you not drill a hole in that case for the mic? Im in the same dilema, looking to get a gopro2 before knockhill.
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Can you not drill a hole in that case for the mic? Im in the same dilema, looking to get a gopro2 before knockhill. I did. Used a rubber o-ring to stop splashes getting past the plug into the case. pistonbroke
I would check how much memory it uses for 1080 resolution Nice to know its waterproof to 60 meters , you never know
M444TTB
Hopefully not necessary for the car though! I see GoPro offer a float door though just in case!
Man On The Clapham Omnibus
My son bought a Hero2 Motorsport a couple of weeks ago, used it last weekend at the Silverstone Classic Z Fest. The results are remarkably good quality. He paid £197.00 too if I recall. A 16Gb card works well but if it's not a 'virgin' card - i.e. not used for anything else - you'll find it rejects it until it is formatted. It MUST be formatted in the camera, not on a computer or it still won't accept it.

I have a hero and 960 and have never had to format a card for either of them, also regularly swap the card into my compact and DSLR without any issues. Andy Banks
I have one of these: http://www.dogcamspo...car-camera.html There is a discount code in the members area. It has an inbuilt mic which is okayish, but the kit above comes with an external mic which is better. I have some noise compression issues so the audio is rubbish at the mo. Highest frame rate at 720p seems to give best quality.

Autosri
I have just bought the gopro hero and I thought the internal mic was pretty good I thought you could feed a mic into the expansion port on the back of a gopro hero not tried it but I built a remote control and sure I saw it on the diagram will post a pic
Autosri
this shows you can make it take an audio input thought this might be usful to people i built one for use on the westy so you can put it in random places that are out of reach

CL290005
Jeff glad you started this thread you beat me to the same question, that would be the same spec of card I would buy as it has a high enough refresh rate. Have you bought from this guy? I contact him yesterday about picking up from MK but oddly enough wanted to charge £5.00 for the privilege Would be interested to know how you got on with the deal?
