cast iron
3 races, 3 different winners, overtaking. Hats of to Pirrelli who met the objective of tyres that wont last, its certainly been the final piece of the jigsaw with DRS and KERS. Norman Verona
I understand that the nut is part of the wheel, but it won't thread itself (will it?). As the gun never touched the nut, the nut must have been fully undone. There may be another mechanism (spring loaded balls?) to keep the wheel from coming off but I still don't fully understand why it didn't detach itself from the hub. Unless the threads are handed and the wheels rotation partially did the nut up.
Captain Colonial
What I don't get as well is why the traffic light system released him from his box. It's supposed to stay red until it gets a signal that all the wheel nuts have been tightened, then go green...at least that's my understanding, so the chief mechanic doesn't make the mistake. peterg
Unless the threads are handed and the wheels rotation partially did the nut up. They were handed when I did a wheel swap (not an an F1 meeting...) but I don't know if they still are I would have thought so - edited as you can see from the YouTube feature I linked to that the righthand wheel has a lefthand thread and the wheel has spring loaded spigots that it slips over to hold in place while the nut is done up Martin Brundle did a techie talk about them a couple of years ago which is on YouTube...
