Marcus Barlow - Show and Events Co-ordinator
I wasn't going to post it as this will probably spark off all sorts of other debate, but... www.pistonheads.com/sales/3502707.htm If I were to buy at the price discussed it wouldn't be exactly as in the advert. P.S. please don't get my thread locked! Ime sure someone on here advised that these guys accidentally continued advertising a car on ph that was no longer available might be worth double checking before travelling to view this car
M444TTB
If hope it was definitely there! Thanks for all the advice this evening!
M444TTB
Can anyone interpret this for me? Obviously one is the weight of the car, but which!? I'm assuming not 900kg!
Mark (smokey mow)
None of them are the weight of the car. 1 and 2 are the maximum weights that each axle will carry, and 900 is the max total for a fully laden car. Chassis number suggests to me it could be live axled (WSL), but I could be wrong as the advert text describes it as an SEi Widebody? "X" as a 10th digit indicates it's a 1999 chassis and the last 3 digits suggest it was probably manufactured around first 1/4 of the year. M444TTB
1999 manufacture for 2001 completion sounds reasonable. The SEW vs SEiW bit concerns me though! Is there a good visual guide on here somewhere? EDIT: Advert also says rebuilt axle?! Hmm
markcoopers
If you want a track based machine, neither really fit the bill. I'll say it, but the CVH looks over priced.......i am being nice here. Ask what axle is fitted and as i am pretty sure from the pics that it is a ford escort live axle. Nothing wrong with it, i had one, but be sure you really want the car for that cash.....Dyno might sound good, but how will you know what a 143bhp CVH feels like? from memory that will also be about the absolute limit for a CVH without forced induction of a move to a far bigger capacity block. Car is also 12y old and the spax shocks on it will i suspect be original. Looks well cared for that does count for a lot, but just be sure it is what you want. Whitny is close to my work if you want a seasoned pair of eyes to come with you one evening?...pm or email V8.... I had a 4.2 version and it was mighty fast, but no track car. Sure you can build a massively fast V8 track car, but you will be spending cash to do so. V8 not massively expensive to run, sure 8 plugs vs 4 , but in truth it is a solid old push rod hydralic maintence free USA designed v8. 200bhp might alos be a pinch of salt, 150 was the best these boys really gave from the factory and "stage 2" what ever that means as it is an arbitry scale, not an industry agreed level of work, might have some head flow improvmnets, but they will still be restrictive. Back in pro rover drag days the best out of 5+L, blowers and methanol was only about 450-500 and a **** load of trouble.

M444TTB
Went to look at the CVH. Fantastic car. Really high quality build. No budging on the £8k asking price though. He thinks he'll sell by the weekend so good luck to him. If it had a Zetec i'd probably be onboard. I'm gonna think overnight but I don't think I'll do it. Although the RAC roll bar and items from Soft Bits For Sevens were great I should price them up for myself.
markcoopers
Was it live axle or Indipendent? Did it have the blanking plates at both bulkheads to stop crud sitting between the tub and alli sheets? Little details make all the difference.
M444TTB
Definitely a live. Don't know on the other question. I didn't notice any areas I thought would collect crap though.

P.S. please don't get my thread locked! Looks ok but why has it got the 'huge' rad on a 3.5? Cooling issues? Plenty with bigger engines don't need one. adamnreeves
Maybe he decided just to put a huge rad on in the first place. These engines should be ran around 83celicius which is cool compared to modern engines which typically run at 96celcius.
stephenh
Reference the Toybox V8, it appears to be a link which takes you to a very old Pistonheads advert, as far as I can see. In fairness to the, if you look on the Toybox website, they dont claim to have that car for sale, in fact they invite you to telephone Andrew to ask what cars they CURRENTLY (my emphasis) have for sale, which would be surely the sensible thing to do if you were in the market to buy. If and when I want to change my car, I shall most probably do that.
Dommo
Matt has checked and the guy does actually have this car for sale, or at least says he does. I know... I had to sit down too
Matta
M444TTB - Lots of great advice from the collective brainpower of the forum but, if it was me I wouldn't go for either of these cars. I've absolutely nothing against CVH or V8-powered Westies but from what's been discussed before, I think they're over priced - particularly the CVH one. I'd be sticking with the forum until something comes up that fits your £8k-ish budget. You should hopefully get a decent Zetec/XE-powered car for that money, or CVH/Pinto/X-flow for substantially less. Again, just my opinion but maybe look around a bit more, try a few and narrow down the spec you want before parting with your cash. It's relly difficult with money burning a hole in your pocket though! Matt
