XTR2Turbo
It doesn't sound dodgey to me - I was just adding what I do for payment, whether a UK or overseas buyer. Unfortunately there is no easy answer for secure payment.
Norman Verona
I would advise not to take a bankers draught as some are forged. Problem is that they clear and it takes several weeks before the issuing bank (normally overseas) rejects it as a forgery and your account is debited. I know someone who sold a one year old Range Rover with a £1000 added for shipment overseas. (he should have known about that one). 6 weeks after banking the draught he was phoned to say it was a forgery. He lost the lot, £45,000 in total. echoz
Mot everyone is a con artist seems perfectly legit to me as others have said
Norman Verona
My little echo, I never said the buyer was a con artist, as you seem to imply. Someone said it was safe to take a bankers draught so I pointed out that it isn't.
XTR2Turbo
Really? I've not seen that done and sold a few cars/bikes etc over the years for cash, maybe I've just been lucky... you may need to watch carefully but if they count it and put a coloured band on it the clerk will write on the band their initial and a transaction id
Martin Keene
I am quite happy with the transaction now. I have spoken to him several time, he was more interested in the car than the money. He has sent receipts, I have his address (which checks out as much as I can) his phone number, email address, etc. He has booked a flight, which checks out as well. I'm not going to count any chickens before they are hatched etc. But if he turns up with the cash and if the bank check it (which I will ask) and accept it then it's a done deal to me. samulis
I have spoken to him several time, he was more interested in the car than the money. Yes, this is how I have gone through these sittuations. At this point I have had everything work'd out, now this is the moment of no return, sitting in front of computer trying to find out is there some hidden faults or something in the car, looking same pics over and over again trying to spot every last detail that could give a hint of something. Then there is hefty amount of £££ in cash in wallet, day(s) off from work, flight(s) and ferries that have been book'd, insurance's taken, trip calculated and then on top of it all trying to sleep while going through feelings and what if's. If the car I'm going to go and buy isnt what it was describe'd I just toss a quite amount of money and days of work preparing out of the window. On way from UK to Finland I've had engine blow'n in Autobahn, wasnt what I'd call fun, intresting maybe. Well, lesson learn'd. Also I've gone to Newcastle upon Tyne from Helsinki via London just to find out that the seller wasnt selling what he/pic's promise'd, had a moment of silence there and then. Dont worry, all you have to do is to walk to bank and let the ladies take care of the money ps. you can tell the buyer that if he buys the ticket to Dover-Calais ferry from internet day before he gets it 1/2 price.. Martin Keene
you may need to watch carefully but if they count it and put a coloured band on it the clerk will write on the band their initial and a transaction id I have spoken to my bank about this and there some truth in it. If you pay in more than £5k in cash it is bagged separately and checked later, so for £4600, all is well
Martin Keene
Ok, so it wasn't a scam. He turned up on the flight he said, when he said, I picked him up from the train station, he had a look around the car, we went for a test drive, we went to the back in paid in £4600 in cold hard cash. He drove home. Sorted.

Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman
Good news Martin, a relief that's out of the way! But weird how even when the cash is safely tucked up in the bank, it's still burning a hole in your pocket!
