For those of you who missed Sundays Scotland region meeting we discussed the possibility of getting a club "session" at one of the "Hot Hatch" track days at Knockhill.

I've spoken to Knockhill about it and there's no problem with doing this, however there needs to be a minimum of 20 cars and a maximum of 30 in the session.

The way these track days work is that there is a cost of about £65 for the day (£55 for track time, £10 entry fee for everyone inc spectators) - prices may increase in the high summer days, but only by £5 or so. The day runs from 9am to 5pm (sign-on from 8am) and they split the track time into 3 to 5 numbered groups depending on how many cars turn up on the day. Each group then gets 10-15 minutes on track in each session - which is enough to get between 8-10 laps at a time. Usually you'll get between 6 and 8 sessions in the day depending on how busy it gets.

For the club there is no outlay here, we just need to ask for the session and turn up with enough cars.

I do these days fairly regularly as they are a good way to get cheap tracktime. If anyone wants to come up sometime and experience it before taking their own car on let me know and they can tag along.

So before we ask for suitable dates can we get a rough idea of who may be interested - just to see how many cars we might be able to get along, so if you could add names below that would be good.

Fundamentally nothing so long as your car is in good condition, because westies are so light its no more strenuous on your car than a spirited country drive (unless you really push it). Things I would check:

Brake pads have plenty life and fluid isn't overdue a change.

Tyres are in good condition.

All fluids are topped up and in good condition.

Nothing is loose/rattling.

Worthwhile doing a quick spanner check on accessible nuts/bolts for tightness.

No-one is going to force you to go faster than you are happy with, so drive within the your limits and you'll have great fun....and once you've done it once its like crack :d

Count me in - same as zippylob though, after Applecross!

I think those that have done track days should offer to check /actively help to check the cars of those who have not done it before. Perhaps by arriving early as a group.

Sounds like a reasonable suggestion - I'll be trailering as usual as I will break down (I do at every track day) so will have lots of tools/jack etc as well

Could be interested in this, depending on date. My son (Pilot Pete on here) has raced with the NSSCC at Knockhill the past couple of years, and the circuit looks fantastic from the sidelines.. I need a go!

btw. NSSCC races are at Knockhill again this year, May 5th & 6th. We'll be there. :t-up:

Grieg,

I am interested but would need to be later in the year rather than in the next couple of months. Whilst my car is still on the road, its not in the best of shape and needs some money spending on it before thrashing or at least driving it a bit harder than normal on a track. I need to get the gearbox and the rear diff looked at due to funny noises, the old cylinder head rebuilt and fitted and a host of other jobs like wishbones exhausts, etc, so time and money dictates a bit later in the year.
