tankerman24 Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Hey Gadgetman was good to bump into you, hope you had a great blat, wish Id been out in the Westfield but 300 miles with the dog and a load of Christmas pressies would have been too much lol Quote
Wile E. Coyote Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Sounds like fun! Although last time I was on the Orme (to look at a TVR powered Westie as it happens) I actually met someone half way up.... heading the wrong way! Tried B4319 Bala --> Llanfyllin? From Cheshire there's a nice loop in via Mold and back via Welshpool/Oswestry/Whitchurch... another very pleasant morning out. Quote
Stevemarsh Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Yep, left for work this morning with car, 6.40, was a dark and foggy! But soon brightened up! Great drive, always have a smile. I think it's the best thing I have ever purchased! Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Well just got back in after a day of it; Straight on the A55 to Conway, then on into Deganwy for a site meeting at twelve. Couple of "can I have a rides" after the meeting, so a few mini blats round the great Ormi/mini Orme bits. Then down to Betws-y-coed and a stop at the local Shell garage for some Vmax, which seemed b****y cheap. Damn this welsh land, fantastic roads and cheaper fuel. Gits Happened to meet Tankerman while in the petrol station Then on down for a loop of the Evo Triangle, followed by a circuit of the Horse Shoe Pass broken by a sarnie and a brew at the Pondrosa Cafe. All but the pass (in low cloud) in winter sun plus patchy blue skies and a bit of weak cloud. Bit chilly mind. From the Cafe, it was a quick run across to Wrexham so I could catch Demon Tweaks before they shut. My newly acquired full winter waterproof/wind proof cycling gloves kept my hands toasty for the last hour or so's run home. Dark by this time, so amused myself lighting up the hedgerows on the over run Fantastic. was in Conwy meself this morning , no Westy though and the day was asking for it Quote
mikef Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I've never driven the Horseshoe Pass so I took a look at the satellite images of it. Just to the North East of the Pass near Cryn y Brain are what I thought were felled trees lying on the ground covering a very large area. However, on closer inspection they appear to be scars in the soil - almost as if someone has gone mad with a plough. I can't work out what the marks are. Any ideas?? Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 It gets a bit crowded up there at times Quote

Looks to me like a forestry where thev'e felled the trees , the "scars" being were they have dragged the trunks to the loading site using cables from the cranes you can see there ? Quote
mikef Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 PB, I can't see any cranes there. The 3 things that look like cranes are the shadows of towers - one is a telecomms tower and the other an old WW2 radar tower and I don't know what the third one is. That is assuming we are looking at the same "cranes". Quote
pistonbroke Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Ok then I give up , put it down to extra terrestial stuff Maybe the boys in black should pay a visit Quote
mikef Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 At least it's a variation on crop circles - they are so passe now.................... Quote

From Cheshire there's a nice loop in via Mold and back via Welshpool/Oswestry/Whitchurch... another very pleasant morning out. Just had a quick look on Google Maps, looks like a nice run to add to the return leg. Confession time It was almost nearly me going the wrong way too, while doing the "let's have a quick blast" bit Don't think anyone saw me, but even Bernie across the estuary in Conway may have heard me Quote
Cleggy the Spyder Man Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 gonna be taxing mine from December and looking forwards to it too Quote
Danp07 Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I ain't got one to blat in. (Mental note to self - you stupid b*****d for selling it). Buy it back then Bob, Im quite sure its your cosworth on pistonheads. Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Im quite sure its your cosworth on pistonheads. What a crying shame, (unless you buy it back of course). I always hate to she such fine and once cherished cars become repeat fixtures in the classifieds. Quote
Ciprian Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 had a brilliant run together with future MrsCiprian out on the Aberdeenshire roads, bit wet but lovely drive in the end. Obviously the left wing stay broke on the way back. Doesnt really matter as we are going SORN and this was the last outing for the year... Quote
