Captain Colonial Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 D'OH! One of the highlights at this weekend's auction at The Inn at St. John's, presented by RM Auctions, is a unique 1939 Pontiac Plexiglas Deluxe Six 'Ghost Car'. Built at a reported cost of $25,000, the 'Ghost Car' was a pioneering Plexiglas collaboration between GM and Rohm & Haas, and holds a special place in the history books as the first full-sized transparent car to be built in America. Made of Rohm & Haas's new Plexiglas acrylic material, fitted to a 1939 Pontiac Deluxe Six chassis, the Plexiglas body exposes the car's innards for all to see. Structural metal underneath was given a copper wash and all the hardware, including the dashboard, was chrome plated. A highlight of the 1939-40 New York World's Fair, the 'Ghost Car' went on a nationwide tour immediately after its display, later spending several years at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C before passing through a succession of Pennsylvania Pontiac dealers. Today, remarkably preserved and the only known surviving ‘Ghost Car' of two built, it is fresh to the market, offered at RM's St. John's sale for the first time since the early 1980's. (Est. $275,000 - $475,000). OK, smart - your turn! Quote

stephenh Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 I haven't got a clue how to post pictures on here so back to you Captain for another try!! I must say even a pensioner (well almost) could manage to Google "see through car"; took me straight to it. Quote

I must say even a pensioner (well almost) could manage to Google "see through car"; took me straight to it. Like I said... Smart I'm tied up right now, so someone else can have a go, but posting photos is easy. Go to Google Image Search, find a car, and make sure the decription of the car isn't in the name of the link. Copy the web address or URL as it's known. Come back here and type something like "Clicky", highlight it and press the "http://" button above your post and insert the URL. Simples! Or go to the FAQ and look at how to host photos for free with our friends at Gently Hosting. (Other free web based photo hosting sites are available.) Quote
