nikpro Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I'm a big fan of caterhams - it's no secret. I think this is fantastic value for money. With the same competent driver I would be fairly certain it would be quicker than the westfield Duratec 2000S round a track - the Duratec that Westfield sold never made anywhere near 200 bhp - 170-180 was more the norm. Caterham is significantly lighter and will handle much better with the supplied Hardware. (The westfield will take a great deal of set-Up work to even get close.) The spec of the Caterham sounds absolutely spot on for a devastating Track Day Car! Sigma engine is currently the best fitment in a 7 type car (Fantastic Engine that is tuneable & Light) - Westfield has gone down the supplied cheap crap turbo route in the interest of profit - have you ever heard anyone compliment it? (I do appreciate Westfield also offer the Sigma Engine but this isn't the product they are pushing to the Fore and, as standard the Westfield Chassis isn't a match for the Caterham; it's also significantly heavier/bigger) IMO .............and it is only an Opinion caterham are moving in the right direction (Good basic Track/Fun cars for enthusiasts that are improved through racing), Westfield are not. Very Sad really as i love my Westfield but can not be 'brand loyal' at present - bring back 2004/2005 when Westfield offered a similar product to caterham for less money and were 'snapping at their heels'. One company is currently run by a car nut .........the other is run by a profit maximising organisation! (Where are the Smiths when we need them). I Stuggle to see why people would go to Westfield when Caterham have offerings like this? (same/similar price - better product) N.B. The above is purely Opinion (Mine) Quote

Suffice to say that I could have bought a small house in the UK or a larger one in France for the same. I've driven lots of different models and for the best fun, sress free and best handliong the 140 bhp K series is the best. My 220 bhp, comp clutched, fire breathing monster isn't much fun to drive for a Sunday afternoon calm blat. The Midget is. It looks like this Caterham will be. However, like Cleggys box I have an emotional attachment to my car. Quote

There is a lot of criticism of them on this Boardroom; I just need to understand why. Although I purchased second-hand just over 5 years ago, my car, when new and factory built in 1996 cost a tad over £25K. Yes, £25K. Frankly, outrageous. In 2011, I am still “fettling” areas that I believe should have been engineered correctly back in 1996, instead I hear myself constantly breathing a sigh. I am certainly not trying to be controversial or clever here but I do think the Caterham may be better value for money overall. The saving grace for me is if and when I sell my car, I will be in the comforting thought that the new owner will have a good car, the same as many other folk on here have built themselves. Quote
Mark Stanton Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Never thought I'd say it but seems a crackin weekend / trackday toy ......... price isn't too bad and a good choice of engine ......... something small, light and revvy that may be heaps of fun to chuck around in a spirited way a back to basics type of car but with all the rights bits to provide a good drive experience ............ another market area that WSC have not really picked up on, whilst trying to push their turbo car Quote
