Anyone ever used an angle grinder  ???  ??? either 9" or 4"

While its spinning it has gyroscopic tendencies  :(

So does a car wheel, larger inertia/weight, harder to turn IMO

Empirical evidence of a direct comparison between 15" and 13" wheels.  15" wheel weighs in the region of 16.5kg, 13" wheel about 11.5kg.

Car running on 15" wheels felt "heavy" - it was harder to provoke the back end to move around and the intertia of the wheels meant that it was harder to get the rear wheels spinning.  Also the ride height was higher which has an impact on the centre of gravity.

Same car running on 13" wheels - OMFG !! :0   Car felt light, nimble, turned in better was much more chuckable and getting the back end hanging out was easier and much more controllable.  The  :D  factor was massively increased !!

Neither set of tyres was particularly sticky - both Yokohamas but nothing more exciting than A520s (old) and something they call AVS Intermediates here in the US.  Only other change to the car was to dial in a fraction more negative camber on the front with the 13" wheels (which in turn probably gave a little more toe-out).

It really is chalk and cheese territory !!  Unsprung weight makes a *massive* difference to these cars.

Re the relative performance of the car, I suspect the the main culprit was the approximate 12.5% increase in the gearing (allowing for the tyre).  This obviously affects both acceleration and braking.  The feel, as you say, will be the increased unsprung weight.

7/21x13 acb10 and 7j13 wheel 10.4kg front

8/22x13 acb10 and 8j13 wheel 10.6kg rear

205/50x15 tyres and 7j15 wheel 16.4kg + 0.5kg spacers for rear

Total with 15" rims tyres and spacers 66.6kg

Total with 13" rims tyres on spacer’s 42kg

Saving 24.6kg  :0

No surprise I can feel the difference.
