The Westie Election

I asked my MP why we couldn't have a 'none of the above- lets create a new system that's actually democratic' box on the ballot paper.

Ironically he thought it highly unlikely that people WOULDN'T want to vote for one of the candidates standing for any one seat (these are the candidates selected behind closed doors by several groups of cronies who all have their own agenda).

I will definitely vote, and agree it should be compulsory, but there should be a way of getting rid of our faux democracy (read party politics).

Then vote him out 'cos he's an idiot. "None of the above" is specifically banned by electoral law. It's the only name that is actually legally banned from appearing on a ballot paper, and your MP should know that...

I was just going to vote against him because he was a tad arrogant, but idiocy is as good a reason as any.

Glad I was able to help with your choices :D

I saw this on another forum and wondered if it was genuine and, if so, what it heralds.

It will be my first general election, having missed the last by less than a week, and i think im going to go for lib-dems.

Reasons are followes:

- I would never vote conservative, anything they ever do smats of stuck up A*** and gets on my t**s.

- I dont mind labour, i think they have done all right, but i think there millage in giving them a season off.

- It annoys me that we currently have, if not a two party election, and 2.5 party election. And i think this is the best chance of having a 3 party election for a long time.

- Actually, generally, much of the lib-dems policies seam on the surface to be all right, so im happy to give it a whirl for once.

That said, home is Edisbury, and Loughborough is Charnwood. Both safe tory-w****r seats historically.

Because, as said, its the law.

If you want to make a protest vote, go along to the polling station, take a ballot paper, and then deliberately 'spoil' it before placing it in said box. I dont fully condone this, but i would prefer to see someone do this than not.

Hear hear. Spoiled papers demonstrate a protest. Not turning up demonstrates apathy, and apathy never got us anywhere...

I know its the law.. but the government put it there quite recently, and if one was synical you might say the ruling class was protecting its own backside against the rest of us deciding they were useless.

I agree you could spoil you paper, but then there would be nothing to differentiate between you and the numpty without the hand eye co-ordination to get the cross in the box.

I love politics...

Rightly or wrongly it's what I did on the last election about a year ago.

I wrote exactly what I thought of them in no uncertain terms. Obviously it meant diddly squat to the scum bags, but made me feel happy as I strolled out. :D

Why restrict your choices already, I am amazed at how many boxes there are to tick when you see the paper , never heard of most of them though. It's a shame george Galloway hasn't got a candidate up this way  :D

I think it's clear cut if you want Labour in vote for anybody but the Tories. A vote for Lib Dem is a wasted vote unless you want Labour to remain in power, I don't so I am voting Blue I can't see them making it worse so I am willing to give them a shot at the big game.

Plus I can't stand Brown & Mandelson is a C

What he said.  If Labour (and the unelected PM) get back in after this performance then their arrogance is likely to be breathtaking and the way we will be governed will reflect that.  Gotta vote Tory to stop that happening

In your area maybe, but not in everyone's.

In mine a Labour vote is a 'wasted' vote as it's generally tight between blue and yellow, but like I said a few posts back, voting 'against' who you don't want is a s**t idea.

I'll do what I do for every election review the term of the current lumps in power against the other parties proposed policies see who has told the least lies and have the least bull s**t in the manifesto. So as every election it will be hard... probably vote conservative per norm cos they are all the same who ever gets in power does a revamp of polices and takes the P**s leaving the peasants to pay more tax, reduce services, let more immigrants in, give the police less powers, do nothing about violent crime, cripple manufacturing let the investment bankers dictate financial policy, not give Wales their full independance to stop them leaching off backs of the rest of the UK, and not let the EU pull our pants down and shaft us. Come back Maggie all is forgiven
