Norman Verona Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 My original paypal account won't work because the card was lost and they've advised me that the card is no longer valid. So I go to change it and it wants my current card number entered to verify the change. If I had the card I wouldn't need to change it so I gave up. That was about 4 years ago. I now want to buy something on ebay but they only take paypal. So I start the process to open a new account. On the 5th attempt I get it to accept the details. I've had to use a different email address to get it through. It then tells me theres something wrong with my card details. I check them and all seems correct. I re-enter all the details. It tells me there's something wrong with my card details. I re-enter it all again including the adddress. I double, no treble check all the spellings and numbers. It tells me there's something wrong with my card details. Out of frustration i click [enter] again and this ttime it goes through and I'm accepted. So I go through the process of buying my item. It get to the pay bit and I'm told my paypal account can't be used because I'm over my limit. So I spend another 10 minutes trawling through more screens to be informed they are charging my card £1 which will appear on my card statement with a 4 digit code. I must get this code and enter it in the space provided. I've looked at my credit card statement (online) and the charge isn't there. So, I've been told I have a Paypal account and can start spending my money. I spend my money and now told I do have an account but can't use it. Excuse me whilst I go and smash my head on the stone wall. Quote
pistonbroke Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 I would suggest there's probably something wrong with your card details catch 22 Norm Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 No, it took it eventually. With the same details. The £1.00 charge is still not on the statement though. Quote
pistonbroke 2 Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Norman Ive just had exactly the same experience that yiu have had. The stuff I want can ionly begotten by praypal Ive been to the bank to see if two small amounts that preypal say they have taken out to verify my account. Thing is I applied for the paypuss account 4 days ago and i am still waiting. Ill probably get neg.feedback for no fault of my own. Quote
KerryS Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 The £1 debit and, should be, credit is to check it really really really is a valid card. I can't remember if this happened when I first set up a paypal a/c but it certainly happened (again?) when I needed to go to a verified a/c owing to item being bought was costlier than the un-verified a/c would accept. Hopefully all the cr@p you've been though is protecting you in some way. Quote
Jonah Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 Ebay & Paypal between them are complete & utter t***s. I am in dispute with them as they have charged me the final value for an item which the buyer never paid for. They have been informed of this several times but no response. B8stards Quote
tex Posted April 3, 2010 Posted April 3, 2010 the charge is a one off - i had to do it too. it did take a few days tho Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 3, 2010 Author Posted April 3, 2010 That's the problem, If you're told the account is open and you can use it, you use it. So I've purchased something I cannot pay for. Jonah puts it succinctly. Quote

That isn't exactly fair why bid on something if you did not have the technical ability to pay within a timescale in a fornat that was requested ? why not set up your account first and then buy something Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Lurks, I did set up the account first. I had to enter everything at least twice as it kept telling me I had an account. I eventually got the account set up and the system told me I had successfully created my Paypal account. I even got an email telling me the same! So I then went and purchased my item and folowed it through to payment where it told me that I was over my 1,500€ credit! On reading 2 pages of reasons I find that, yes, I do have an account but it needs verifying. Why didn't they do this at time of creation. I'm now going to see if the charge is on my credit card. Ed to ad that MBNA site is down for maintenance. And this is the emial I got when I created the Paypal account: Welcome to PayPal! Norman Verona Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Funny you say that, Kerry, but it seems a lot of non-EU suppliers don't. They say the customs are too strict. Seems to be the chinese....... Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 4, 2010 Author Posted April 4, 2010 Still not showing on my credit card statement, which, by the way, is a UK card. Quote
Norman Verona Posted April 6, 2010 Author Posted April 6, 2010 Checked my credit card this morning and lo and behold there are 2 £1.00 charges from paypal. So I follow the instructions to verify my account and enter one of the 4 digit codes. I I then follow the instructions to make the payment for the item purchased. It congratulates me on making the payment and sends me an email: QUOTE Hello norman verona, Congratulations! Your withdrawal limit has now been lifted. You can now withdraw unlimited funds from your PayPal account. To withdraw funds, log in to your account, go to the "Withdraw" subtab of the "My Account" tab and follow the instructions. Thanks, PayPal BUT..... then it tells me there is something wrong and my payment has been blocked. It invites me to contact their service department to resolve the matter. So I click on the link and ....... ... it then tells me I've addressed an invalid page and that this is usually due to using an outdated bookmark. FECK EM, I can live with all this hassle I'm now off to take it out on the barn floor which I will be hitting very hard with a big pick and sledge hammer. Quote
