Which engine for track only car?

I seem to have started a bit of a debate!!

Forgot to mention we were the 1st year to use the 1.6 sigma in the caterham academy. Was a good reliable engine but think I prefered the 4age, especially after fitting the cams, with the limiter set for 8k!!

Just to throw another one in, what about the 1.6 VXR turbo out the current corsa? I see westfield now offer this option.

A bit of an unknown so far, but rarely has *any* turbo motor been the quickest se7en on track... ;)

I understand from a very reliable source (Main agent) that the VXR corsa engine melts No 3 piston on a regular basis in the standard car, due to heat related problems associated with the exhaust port for No 3 being within millimetres of the turbo!

It may not be a bike engine, but I wouldn't recommend this route either

I've gone for the K20 because of the wider range of tuning options for this over the F20.

I'll let you know what it's like soon, I hope.

My love of bike engined cars is well known, so for me ity would have to be the honda K20 or F20. yes it will need a dry sump, but so will a busa, but the difference is you won't need to replace the engine as regularly!

I would bet that those people who run a Busa as a track car don't get more than 2 years use out of the engine before it needs refreshing, or replacing.

They may be cheap, but each blow up means a new oil cooler, and new oil lines to make sure that you don't contaminate the new engine, otherwise the replacement motor may only last minutes...I have seen the effects of this, though thankfully not had to pay the price!

Car engine everytime, it's going in a car after all!

Go on Paul, admit it ,you were a tiny bit tempted to take up the offer of the drive of my blade car werent you! :p  :p.........for about 30 second admitedly....but you wanted to didnt you. :p  :p  :p

Gotta say...Having driven the turbo car at wesfield recently..... ( and I gave it a good dose of Boghouse right foot abuse) I found it a HUGE dissapointment. Simply had nowhere near the grunt that the brochure figures would suggest...and an awful throttle response into the deal.

Maybe the issues were related to the oe induction/ ecu/ massive silencer etc.....But it killed that particular engine option ( as it is in the factory package) for me

That surprises me.

I have been in one of the aerorace 190m cars which is a quick machine.

however i've seen the new sport turbo beat it in a 1/4mile style drag race and i'm told it laps faster around the alpine circuit at milbrook faster than the 190m aswell.

Maybe it is the quietness of it that makes it not feel as quick as you could barely hear the thing when it's at full chat!

Scot has been used to a Westfield with a good but more grunt than the 1600 turbo so it will seem a little flat.
