gixermark Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 the Bose iPod docks are lovely - although not sure if there is one with built in tuner yet ?? the sound out of those is Quote
Pew Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Bose all the way. Sound Dock allows iPod plug in.... and sounds great. http://tinyurl.com/5vxu6r Quote
twobrutal Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 if money is no concern then the ipod hi-fi is by far the best sounding dock imo..i tested practically every single top end product when i was looking and the hi-fi simply trounces everything else and imo much much better sounding than the bose unit.. it is however expensive, no knobs to twiddle, its pretty uninspiring to look at but does perform brilliantly.. http://www.apple.com/ca/ipodhifi/ Quote
Pilot Pete Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 As its just Jeff's kitchen, I would expect him to want something moderately compact, something like this: Quote
Mike H Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Denon DAB37 + Denon iPod dock + speakers of your choice. Much more flexible than just a docking station. Mike Quote
dhutch Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Do you want radio, CD, or just iPod? If cost is an issue, although its cracking gear, ive always thought bose was over priced for what it is. Daniel Quote
Bean Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I got these, cheap and awesome quality. Harmon Kardon If you can excuse the phalic shaped tweeters Quote
samcooke Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Small speakers suck at playing loud music properly. Physics says so. If you want it to rattle the walls you'll be needing proper big speakers. Get yerself a copy of What hi-fi to sit in the loo with. I like British hifi meself (Monitor, Cambridge that sort of w**ky stuff) not just cos it's patriotic, cos it's got soul. Modern German audio, like modern German music, hasn't. Bose's strap line says it all : 'better sound through research' - where's the love? Listening to music ain't about how accurately Karl-Heinz has managed to convert anologue to digital and back again, it's about how quick your heart beats when you play it loud. I wanna listen to my stuff through the sort of speakers Syd Barrett would have chosen, not David Hasslehof. Do I sound gay? Quote
Mark Stanton Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 another vote for Bose Ipod dock .............. asked similar here before christmas and was recommended Bose - not dissapointed Quote
carpetstu Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Jeff what you really need is ceiling mounted speakers controled through your computer and an LED readout positioned in an ideal viewing position. Calling Pew back to the thread.............. he can explain more. Quote
JeffC Posted March 4, 2009 Author Posted March 4, 2009 Denon DAB37 + Denon iPod dock + speakers of your choice.Much more flexible than just a docking station. Mike in my living room, I have the denon asd 1r docker feeding a huge denon amp into one rel Quake 400 sub on one side of the room and a large Bose sub on the other side and 7 bose cubes positioned round the room, its awesome and Ive even thought of channeling another couple of speakers through to the kitchen but that would mean if someone is watching a movie in the living room I cant listen to music hence wanting something seperate. Im thinking along the lines of what sam said, Im struggling to see how something as small as the dockers suggested are going to give me the quality im looking for, think I will need to find somewhere local that stocks them so I can have a test drive Quote
Mike H Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 If you're looking for British classics my Mission 752 Freedom floor standers, Arcam 8R amp and a Cyrus One amp all in A1 condition are all boxed up and ready to go The speakers may get in the way in a kitchen but would look great in your garden room if a little large Oh and a Marantz CD67SE - a fine Jap CD player. Mike I'll probably be accused of trying to sell stuff now Quote
