DickieB Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 15 days for £500 - absolute bargain. Oh how I look forward to moving out of London (whenever my wife will let me! ) Quote
samcooke Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Same as round here when we looked at it. Luckily the wife is a professional work dodger so didn't turn out to be an issue. Quote
Ian Podmore Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 When our eldest finished nursery they gave us a 'summary' bill for the 4 years she had been there part time for..... What I could have spent that £12k on instead... Wish they hadn't reminded us how much we had spent. 2nd child going through nursery on Mondays and Tuesdays. About £43 per day! We only pay the days they are open though, so don't pay bank holidays. Quote
dombanks Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 with that kind of money being involved me and abbie are never having children we'd never be able to afford it. horses and cars are cheaper Quote
markboyce Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Answer to cheap childcare here They also offer cheap electronic control as well Quote
Emma Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 We paid for Nursery for a couple of days a week, tis an expensive business. We then paid for after school club, where said nursery picked him up from primary school and held him at the after school club till i got there. Another expensive do, given he was only there a couple of hours!!!! Glad he is now 14 and doesnt need nursery any more! Nursery policy was that we did pay for holidays, but i think we were lucky. When son went there originally, the nursery was new, so had no kids - therefore for the rest of the time he was there, we didnt have to pay for his hols, because he was one of the first children they ever looked after!!! If you could afford it, staying home is defo the thing to do!!! *Emma* - you had the right idea!! Quote
Fat Albert Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Ha You lot have never had it so good, the taxpayer even supports you subject to means! More than 20 years ago we chose (euphemism, I wouldn't have sent my dog to the local schools at the time) to send our youngest to a private first school. Three boys education later I could have bought 15 XTR4s and had change from the cost of their schooling! Quote

DMMS Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 When we decided to have children, we made a conscious decision that one of us (my wife as it happens) would stay at home to bring up the children. It has really hurt financially at times - in fact it still does! But there was simply no way that we could justify someone else effectively bringing up our children. The thing that I never understand is that we have friends who constantly lament the amount they have to pay for a childminder or whatever yet are willing to pay their cleaner an higher hourly rate! T.G.G. Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 I am with you on this one Fat Albert. 3 children, youngest at Uni. now. £250K and still counting. No maternity or paternity leave in my day. Would I do it all again?? ABSOLUTELY. Quote
smegablade Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Oi Oi, does your company have a nursery voucher scheme? I get vouchers deducted from my pay before tax so we are able to save a fair bit that way (depends on what tax rate you pay at) Quote

david.c Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Just look forward to when they start school...............you won't know what to do with all the extra money you have Well actually, you can use some of it to pay for school holiday activity weeks David Quote
John Williams (Panda) - Joint Manchester AO Posted May 14, 2008 Posted May 14, 2008 Child minder is the same... We have to pay full fees whilst on holiday / bank holidays and we have to pay her 1/2 fees when she takes a holiday (and pay other childcare!!!) You wouldn't pay an electrician or plumber when they go on holiday!!!! my wife is a teacher so we have a similar think that during her holiday we pay 1/2 fees to retain the place... so alex goes anyway to give louise a breather. We also pay 1/2 on our holidays; but not the child minders. child minder (£100 per week) 7-30am-50pm was much cheaper than his previous nursery place cheers john Quote
