cast iron Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Back in te 80's !! when building one of the first 2.0 16V Novas with a friend, we bought some QED bits, ended up going through solicitors to get the monney back, absolute rubbish. (we did get the money back) and will never use them again. Pete if you are stuck for help mate i can come down on Sunday Quote
Ragged Racing Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Sorry to hear about your engine. I run the same engine, and know a very good engine builder who built mine but he's in Redditch (Cougar Engineering 01527 821675 ) and has built quite a few of these now and getting very good results. Give him a ring. Also I have plenty of spare parts left over including some SBD cams (inlet and exhaust), set of standard valves and springs, standard but pocketed pistons and rods if they are of any use to you. Let me know. All the best Chris Quote

Pete if you are stuck for help mate i can come down on Sunday That is a very kind offer m8e but don't worry for Sunday as I need to get the car back from me m8's workshop and have a plan I'm happy with before I set about fixing it. If that means missing (or marshaling at) 3 Sisters/ Aintree, then so be it. Thanks again Quote
mark.anson Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Pete, If your struggling for 3 slaps you can use my VX car if you want, (but you would be out of class). Just need fuel tank and seat re fitting. Mark Quote

Major Stare Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Peter, If not SBD, i can recomend QED. Other than that, there is nothing else in the Derby/Nottingham area's. QED are not far away. Quote
John Loudon - Sponsorship Liaison Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 Are you definite that you have bent valves? As stated previously, if it was mine I would have refitted bolts to the cam wheel and reset the cam timing and done a compression test first Quote

Norman Verona Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 When I was working in my business and wanted hardened seats fitting in my Elan twink engine I phoned QED for a quote. I had removed and stripped the head and had acid bathed to clean it ready for machining. The conversation went: "I've cleaned and stripped the head ready for machining" The response was "Is that your clean our ours" Needless to say they didn't do the work. Quote
perksy Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 SBD First, but if not them Cougar engines do some nice work They built Dave urens and Will Halls VX engines Quote
Asterix Posted April 2, 2008 Author Posted April 2, 2008 QED no longer build, they only supply. Quote
Blatman Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 For standard valves on my 2.0l, I found my local Vauxhall dealer was chepaest for new valves and head bolts Quote
