I've got a few options for my new trailer, and wanted advice on a few points.  Its strictly for use on my Megabusa, and ideally will fit in a garage (when i get one!)

1. Single or Double axle?

2. Security devices needed?

3. Worth buying second hand, or new?  Is the small saving worth the risk?

My options currently appear to be:

1. Brian James Minno Max.  Twin Axle LOW narrow bed with wheels to the side.

2. Brian James A-Max/TT.  Twin Axle HIGH wider bed.  overall width the same.

3. Ifor williams CT136SA.  Cheaper, more spec standard.

Should i buy new or second hand?

My name is Jeff Cooper and I am a trailer holic

Ive had loads, best one Ive had is the BJ Amax, I got it new 14ft x 6ft 5 with tyre rack and tripple jerry can box and from memory I pad £2200 inc, (basic was £1400plus vat.) was a bit big for the westy though but I used it to drag other cars..

buying again for the westy  I would get a 12ft x 6ft 1" ?? Amax , A max has the integral ramps and make life easier!

second hand they command good money , Ive never lost on one yet inc the one I bought brand new  ;)  :t-up:

Ive also had two Woodford trailers  and they as good maybe better. currently got a BJ raceshuttle , got it second hand wasnt a fortune either  :t-up:  :t-up:

If you like to tow at speed a twin axel is easier, tends to sway less, harder to push round though when off the car .  :t-up:

Cheers Mr. Holic!

The minno max is the smallest of the A-max range, and they've got one in stock, reckon this is a good buy or would you still go for the slightly larger A-max?  Why would you go for 12x6'1?  Would the Minnomax 11'2 x 5'7 not be big enough?   (i'm thinking garage fit here!)

Oh, and PS, on the tow car i'm currently reading about a 330D....

My Brian James Minno was a fantastic trailer and with all the extras second hand cost £1400. When I came to sell it I got my money back so effectively it cost me nothing for the year  :t-up:

Only issue with the minno is that if you decide to go widetrack I think you will struddle to get the car on with the width.

With this in mind I have gone halves with a mate (carpetstu on here) on a Woodford Trailer twin axle which has a slightly wider bed but still fits into a small single garage  :D This cost us like £900 (£450 each) and is also a very good trailer.

The trailers seem to be similar build quaity and are both excellent to tow. With that in mind I would remommend the twin axle. I personally would recommend second hand because of resale value but have a good check over the different ones because the problem is everyone thinks their trailer is worth £1000 and when you see some you realise there is a big difference in the condition.

If you can get one with reciepts and has been serviced then you know it has been looked after (and hopefully not a stolen one) unlike when Stu went to buy ours with no history  :bangshead:

Hitch lock most will come with and I would also get a good wheel clamp too  :t-up:

When you checked price of mino, if you have a budget of £2308 ish then you could pick up a covered trailer second hand and that would be great (wish we had done that now but over twice price of course. The Minno Shuttle is awesome   )

Happy Hunting

Hope this helps  :t-up:

Cheers Eddie.

Ebay seems to be fetching much higher prices for covered trailers, in the 4000+ it seems.  Any other good sources for hunting?

I'm going to have a google for woodford now...

Woodford look good value.   Do you know what width bed i need for my wide-track front?

Here is an example of what I mean mate: Shuttle

And that is where I have bought both mine from. Look in both the section that advert is in and also in the Motorsport tab.

Anotherplace would be race cars direct and they have a website.

woodford used to make trailers for Bj so the quality is up there. The ones Ive had I thought were made of better components, jockey wheels etc. again good residuals!

I would get a 6ft bed , my pals got a minno and the car is a very tight fit.

Well 5 foot 7 should be fine that is what we have  :t-up:

Just noticed you have the minno down as 5'7" too but that must be a new size because the older ones are only 5'5" which is where there is a problem  :t-up:

Edited to add (after reading Jeffs post) we went for 5'7" because the 6'1" wouldn't fit my crappy garage door

Yes but I did also get it serviced for you and included the wheel straps so still excellent value trailer  :t-up:

My current garage is about 2.1m wide, trailers seem to be 2.05 (minno max.... fits!) or 2.30 (most others, doesn't fit).

A brand new minno max is looking like a good option, but the extras don't half rack up the price.

Had a twin axle PRG trailer for a few years - very satisfied with it - stable and lasting well  ;)  ;)  :D

I'm just about to buy a minno max, I love the slide out ramps compared to the ones on the old minno/A series.

Selling my old trailer (fits a narrow perfectly) for £150 as it needs a new trolley wheel and two new tyres and a general spruce up. Is about as small as poss and great for a single garage. :)
