Darkspeed Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 That would be 27 Jeff - 37 you would have a problem and you would have to look it up on an American BMI scale as the UK one does not go that far Andrew Quote
Darkspeed Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 A better way is to use the BMI with a body fat calculator because this takes into account waist and hips measurements. Having gone from 16-11 to now 13-10 in 4 1/2 months with a healthy but strictly calorie controlled diet I can honestly say its b****y hard work. Andrew Quote
JeffC Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 we bought some scales that calculate your bmi and water % , Im 100% positive it comes back with 37 fat and 43 water. the high reading is what spooked me as when I looked into it I was classed as obese Quote
kingofthetwisties Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Can somebody tell me when this lark starts to get addictive!!! yes, when you have to tell youself to stop rather than have to tell yourself to keep going! I don't think I am gonna have this worry then Quote
adamnreeves Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 BMI is misleading. I worked out my BMI about a year ago and apparently I was just into the obese range. My bodyfat scales said I was 12% and those were wrong as well! My personal trainer did the six point caliper method and it came out at 6% which is far too low! I was eating 5,000calories a day! Since then I have cut back quite a bit! The best method of assesing you weight is too look at yourselve in the mirror with you undies on. Quote
oldman Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 k****l.Just looked at mesel in't mirror with undies on and have decided frilly knickers and bra have t'go Quote

JeffC Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Jeff Did you get the running shoes with the fancy fitting tests ,or did you go off the shelf ? Kev no just off the shelf I never got back / knee ache last time till I was up to doing 20-30 min runs. Day after being to the gym Im aching but not run aching, I used loads of different machines so had more of a work out, will go again 2mrw see If it still has the appeal. Quote
Lurksalot Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I seriously think the proper fitted ones will do you the world of good even in the gym , they will really help over time .................and in the long run ( sorry)! Quote
Pilot Pete Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I looked at myself in the mirror and thought hubba hubba you sexy manly piece of meat. New tactic on the bike, stick the PS2 on and ignore the pain. Think I might start the running soon though to see where I'm at, need to get some shoes though. Quote
JeffC Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 weigh in this morning, lost another 2lb in the last week so thats down to 13. 7. bit disappointed after last weeks record loss went on on a site that calcluates bmi and mine came out at 25.7 which wasnt so bad so what the devil are my scales working out then according to that site ideal is 20 but I would need to be 10 1/2 stone http://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/body_we....tor.htm Quote
Bean Posted January 18, 2008 Posted January 18, 2008 weigh in this morning, lost another 2lb in the last week so thats down to 13. 7. bit disappointed after last weeks record loss If you're intent on getting within a BMI of 18.5 to 25, you only need lose another 5 lbs. 6 foot tall and 13 stone 2 pounds = BMI of 24.95 Quote

If you lost 2lb in a week whilst watching what you eat and you are exercising then I would be happy at that. It does not sound a lot but losing just 2lb will be bodyfat. Those electronic scales are not very accurate and you can easily prove that. Read the small print and you'll even find things such as heart rate effect the readings. Also do not go on those tables that say for a certain height you should weigh.... It depends on your body composition, bone density... etc. When I lost my main bulk of weight in the mid 90s I went from 20stone to 11stone and my family were very worried that I was over doing it and even took professional advice. Now if you look at my ideal weight on a chart it says something line 10.5stone. Yet at 11stone but very little muscle I had a 28" waist and my eyes were sunken in their sockets. Remember losing 2lbs nett, you may have gained 0.5lb muscle and lost 2.5lbs of pure fat. Anyway 2lbs of fat, go to the supermarket and pick up 4 packs of lard and that is what you have lost, now that puts it into perspective doesn't it? Quote
JeffC Posted January 18, 2008 Author Posted January 18, 2008 yep Adam I know you are right, the guy at the gym reckons 2lb a week is ideal and i will be more likely to keep it off that way. Ive a target to be just under 13 clem , but more importantly I want to be able to keep up with the kids when we are out rather than puffing and panting like an owld bloke Quote
