custardtart Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Has anyone seen the weather forecast yet for this event? Looks like waterproofs are going to be advisable! Its going to be a mix of cloud with short showers in between from the looks of things. sod the weather it'll be great fun wet or dry....I'll be packing the wet weather karting suit though...wont be changing tyres its squigglies all the way just higher pressure's in the wet. So what pressure do you recommend for a wet track if using Toyo Proxes? Used to whack up the karting wets to 45psi, so I was wondering if this would work with the Westy not used proxes but usual form is to drop pressures slightly when wet. if you're new to this i would leave as is and just enjoy time on the track. hogman Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 I believe there is Buzz in his V8 and also JeffC in his Busa on Youtube somewhere, worth watching as it gives a good idea of layout - although have to say bit hard to get it wrong at Mallory, seems stupidly simple! I presume the bus stop chicanes arent in use? Cheers Kevin Quote
Fordboi Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 That V8 has got some go! Its an awful lot faster than any of the others on the track! Quote

We'll see shall we whatever track you need to concentrate and respect conditions and surroundings. I can point you in the direction of a few incidents if you think its that simple Quote
tcc21racing Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 This is a good friend of mine showing what happerns when your tyre comes off the rim round gerards at around 90mph looks good for friday weather wise Quote
custardtart Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 but usual form is to drop pressures slightly when wet Is that what you have found works most folks seem to up pressures a bit when raining/wet yep, always drop the pressures. people raise pressure becuase they can't get the temp in the tyre which raises the pressure but lower pressure means more tyre movement on the limit and therefore easier to judge when limit is being approached - or something like that! Quote
Mark Stanton Posted August 13, 2008 Author Posted August 13, 2008 Yep I see where you're coming from - there's also a thought that increasing pressure reduces tyre footprint cuts through standing water and helps against aqua planing - bit like narrow snow tyres for rally cars cutting through. Me ............. I just put some rain X on my visor and waterproofs on under race suit and hope the sun comes out Quote
tcc21racing Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 you out to play on friday matt? if so il have to give you a trailer race on the way up Quote
hogman Posted August 13, 2008 Posted August 13, 2008 Dont worry Mark I plan on behaving big time, gotta drive the car home afterwards!! Looking forward to a fun day out, sunshine booked! Hope everyone has a great and safe day! See you there Cheers Kevin Quote
