catflap
How much weight would a carpet add to the car, at present all the internal panels are alloy, I cant decide whether to paint them or carpet them, but I don’t realy want top be pulling the car apart (not till winter). Where can I get hold of the carpets and what sort of paint should I use, do I need a specialist painter 0of can a good finish be achieved with pot and brush. steppenwolf
Where can I get hold of the carpets From the factory for about £165.00 in your choice of colour with matching piping. They really do look good and it saves an enormous amount of hassle buying them this way.

scott beeland
You can do it yourself for a s### stack less than £165. the shapes are not that hard to cut. Or just get a tunnel carpet from the factory (nicely done) and rubber mat the rest (screwfix catalogue) or leave it.
catflap
cheers scott I am gona take a trip down to the westy fac tomorrow if i get chance to see if i can order a tunnel carpet, i already have rubber mats in the foot wells (it rucks up all the time when driving and gets caught under peddles), maybe Velcro or some light (pva) glue will keep it in place. What is the norm for the back plate (behind seats) do people leave it unpainted or do people paiit or carpet it, if i carpet the tunnel the back plate would look a bit funny in alloy. Ps what’s a screwfix catalogue where do i get one
Mrs Westy
Hey how bizarre I happened to be multi-tasking reading this whilst looking through a screwfix catalogue. You get one from www.screwfix.com they do next day delivery including Saturdays
Al Yupright
Depends on your use of the car... I had a full carpet set in my last car... It gets very tatty very quicky. Frays around the edges, is difficult to get it to lie flat over the tunnel. And every time you need to access the tunnel (being as you've got a reverse box, you'll need to do this frequently! you have to unstick the carpet and stick it again. Also if it gets wet, it takes an eternity to dry. Also seems to attract gravel etc. My car is just bare ali, for that weather proof, lightweight purpose etc. I've seen bare ali anodised which looks very nice. Or powdercoated. Not sure if paint would be durable enough. FWIW, I'd say a full set of carpets will prolly weigh 4-5kgs. Cheers, Al.
catflap
Hummmm..... Thats food for thought Can see your point (no its just the way my trousers ruck up) about the carpet looking tatty. I just don’t like the look of the alloy at all, the purple busa the factory has, is the sor of thing we are after, but i figure they powder coated the sheets before they were attached. Would it be a big job to drill out all the rivets and get the tunnel powder coated. Any interior pics post them here
scott beeland
paint/coating will soon look crap.. think of all the grit etc that gets fired at you on the road (plus general wear and tear). My car just has tunnel carpet and looks ok (functional) but makes the tunnel more elbow friendly
Derm
I was looking at a very well turned out race prepared Westy a couple of months ago - the alloy panels (and race seats) had been sprayed with Rhino Tuff - a polyurethane coating usually used for pickup loadbeds. Looked a bit like the wrinkle finish you used to get on MGB dashboards, but in large scale. From a distance I assumed the interior of the car had been powder coated. Very hard wearing. Shell seats were sprayed to give grip on clothing. Liked the finish so well I intend to do the same with my own kit. http://www.rhino.uk.com Cheers Derm
Blatman
Picture of the inside of my car here. If it's a bit dark, right click it, save picture as, give it a name, save it to your desk top, then open it in whatever image editing software you have, and play with the brightness............ Tunnel top is thick vinyl, sides are bare carbon but would look the same with ally powdercoated black (and it would be worth the effort IMO), and rubber mats stuck down with a contact adhesive. Rear bulkhead is also carbon, but again, black powdercoated ally would look very good, IMO. Al Yup's anodising tip also well worth thinking about. Stripping the interior panels out wouldn't be too hard a job, and would be the only way to do a "proper" job. Putting them is would be equally straightforward (ish), but requires much effort, unless you have an air rivetter. Either way, it's a job for the winter........... moomin
I had the full powder coating job done on mine before the panels were fitted - it looks pretty smart and is low hassle factor. Likely to be some pics which show it on my website. Moom.
Boyband_Pete
Oooh look at you and your carbon, show off! You need a eatching thing in order to paint the alloy. If you adadise it, it will rub away in time. I think Catherham eatch there panels.
