Al Yupright Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Thought I remember reading that the ones bought last year started to fail and would sink due to some hydraulic problem? Quote

peterg Posted August 21, 2006 Author Posted August 21, 2006 BTT - Norm needs more people so the combined Bulk Buy of alloy race trolley jacks and cordless impact wrenches can go ahead, please ask any friends/relatives etc so we can up the numbers - closing date will be Friday 8th September but the quicker Norm gets the email the better Quote
ChrisG Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 I don't wish to put a dampener on this but if buying that amount in bulk Id suggest the chap asks for a sample to try first because I bought a VERY similar (if not identical bar the colour) "no name" 18v impact wrench brand new from Ebay a couple of years ago for ~£50, and it really wasnt very good at all. Despite claiming nearly 200ftlb peak torque, it couldnt undo any of the nuts on my tintop wheel. At first I thought maybe they were too tight from being put on with a tyre fitters gun or maybe slightly corroded, so I loosened them all off manually and did them back up by hand, but it still couldnt undo them so I sent it back and got a refund. Guest Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 i have the habour freight ,jack (x2) and a impact gun , they are identical to the ones norm is getting by the look of it and i have been more than happy with mine and have had them for over 2 years .............. no issues at all , if you know someone or are going to the states just pack em in your luggage on your return , its what i did no hassle at all. peterg Posted August 22, 2006 Author Posted August 22, 2006 OK, as ChrisG and others have raised concerns about the possible quality/longevity of both the jack and the wrench I dropped Norman an email and here is his reply in its entirety:- QUOTE Out of 330 jacks bought in last years bulk buy, one failed due grit on the piston. One or two have had similar problems but have been repaired with seal kits. At the time we bought the jacks last year Demon Tweeks were selling them for over £550. As ours cost £60 everyone understood they took a chance. No one who bought a jack last year has one that no longer works and many are buying more this time round. Quite frankly if anyone has concerns tell him to go to Demon Tweeks and buy the same make for 178.00 plus vat. We cannot give guarantees or ask for samples for a £22 item [so we are all taking a chance with the cordless wrench]. Hope you understand I'm not shooting the messenger. Feel free to cut and past the whole of this email. I have enough to do without people looking gift horses in the mouth and asking me to jump through hoops as well as climb mountains. I, or the club, make no profit on this and the other clubs have been invited in so as to make more numbers so I can get the prices down. I've already had one price reduction and we haven't started negotiating. We are due to talk again after the 5th Sept. In the meantime the quantity is rising which puts me in a good position to barter. Quote
Guest Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 looking at the wrench i would say its the same one i have ..paid $59 and it has withstood much abuse used regularly , no problems at all for me so i would not have concerns buying either item if they are the same . Quote

BuGsBuNnY Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I sent an email but haven't got a reply. Should I not expect one until the time comes? Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) - Club Chairman Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 I sent an email but haven't got a reply. Should I not expect one until the time comes? No, but if you take a look on the relevant threads over in the Blatchat Chatroom, you're listed. (I remember seeing Bugsbunny from the WSCC in one of Norms update posts) Quote
ChrisG Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Hi Peter, I think Norman has taken the comments slightly to heart. I wasnt intending on participating and so wasnt expecting him to "jump through hoops", I just suggested it because I thought it might be worthwhile to check you were getting a good deal because as he says himself there's risk involved in buying the impact wrenches as an unknown. I guess the one I had (it was oryZ30900QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem" target="_blank">the same as this one on eBay) may have been faulty if Harv etc have found them to be OK, but I just thought it was worth passing on the experience as the particular one I had certainly wasnt very good at its job and I still wouldnt have kept it even if it had only cost £20. cheers Chris Quote
