I bought one of Ebay, comes with the necessary resistor to protect the alternator circuit. But back to my question. I have seen these on the outside of vehicles but I am sure that would not be acceptable by the SVA. I think the MSA regulations or whatever state that it must be reachable by the driver and easy for marshalls. So the question is where have people positioned their's where it is acceptable by all! I was think inside the car on the rear bulkhead at the top but a) not easily reachable by the driver and b) probably constitute an SVA failure Quote

Rich_No80 Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Mine's on the bodywork under the drivers side wing mirror along with the extinguisher pull handle both with big stickers next to them so marshalls can see them easily. I figure'd if I need to kill the engine while I'm concious, I can turn the key off but if I'm unconcious I want the marshalls to find it easier. It seems to get through scrutineering okay. I also noticed the caterham Graduate series all have them fitted here - not sure if they have an additional one on the dash though ? Rich Quote
Morbius Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Like leaving the hood/tonneau studs and the sidescreens until after SVA, it is best to keep the car as minimalist as possible for SVA. Anything in the passenger cabin outside the zone protected by the steering wheel or outside the car and accessible by the SVA dolly (an aluminium dome about the size of a baby's head or an adult knee with a short stick handle) must have a minmum radius of 5mm to minimise the likelihood of cut injuries during an impact. Darren B Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Hi Adam, I fitted mine Pre-SVA onto a panel that sits on top of the tunnel, just under the lip of the dash i.e. slightly recessed from the dash. No issues with SVA: Quote

You could always take it off for the sva and just tape it up behind the dash or even remove it and connect the terminals together with a nut and bolt and tape up the connection to prevent shorts. Hopefully you will not have to remove the engine again! I remember the position of your switch, and was going to do the same as it is close to the battery, seems reasonable idea, but then I tohught, erm, that SVA man, better watch out for him! If I were you I would either remove before the SVA. Although Arguably you could not hit that with your body in an accident as it is behind you, maybe close enough behine the seat, but still an opportunity to fail. Other thing is I have soruce an engine! I have just bouhgt one of Ebay a 1989 3.9EFI RR. Comes complete with EFI, etc. I have plenty of time with my build so I shall probably take it to bits and rebuild it. Quote
