busapower2001 Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 variable speed restricted vehicles... A quick search... Hammy is right. The technology exists/is in use today 3rd to last paragraph most interesting. EU might force it in. Speed Controlled Bike Stay awake for this link There is no reason that it should be limited to new cars. The technology could/would be made cheap enough to require retrofitting to older cars too, including old tech non drive by wire ones too. Personally, I would have no problem with this for 50mph limits and below. I stick to these limits anyway. IMO It can only be a good thing (ducks for cover). But in national speed limit zones it is another matter (not a good thing! ). Perhaps that is how the government should bring it in rather than enforcing all speed limits? Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 27, 2006 Posted May 27, 2006 That ISA link is very worrying. In the case of a benign government I wouldn't mind a voluntary trial in built-up areas but with the kind of government we have I would resist it vigorously; in fact I object to any increase in State control in any area of life. BTW, the USA legislated to make all speedo dials to stop at 85mph back in the sixties; no actual limiters, only the speedo read-out. I cannot say if the law lasted - I haven't driven Stateside for a long while, but the idea was to discourage attempts to 'see what it'll do'. Quote
