Gavin Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Could be something to organise for next year if there is enough interest. Quote
steve_m Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I did an 11.98 in a with a standard busa engine at Thorney Island. Would be interested in giving it another go now its turboed !! Bazzer How did you manage that ? Very impressive. Quote

Bazzer How did you manage that ? Very impressive. By getting it wrong ChrisG reminded me it was 12.98 Bazzer Bazzer out of curiousity what was speed over the line Its 10 years since I had a go at the quarter mile at York, I did it in a pug 205 with a mi16 engine/box fitted, I fitted uprated cams/head and was running 45s webers. It managed a 13.9 and think around 100mph.. My standard Pug cabriolet 205/mi16 run 14.5s.. was lot of expense for 1/2 a bl**** second was quite a quick car in its day.. would have expected a busa to be quicker than that.. sure me westy feels a fair bit quicker than me owld pug Quote
Barry Ashcroft Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 QUOTE Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but what about a seven day at Santa Pod Over on Blatchat they did something similar at Shakespear county raceway last month. Click I would be up for this Quote
ChrisG Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Hi Jeff Baz's terminal was something like 112mph I think, and my Locost blade was 13.4@105mph. Another friend of ours in a ZX12 Locost did a 12.5@115mph the same day, but he'd had a lot more practice, what with it being our first event and all that. I expect a busa could match the ZX12 at least, possibly even beat it by a couple of tenths as the Locost wasn't built to be particularly light. There's a lot of difference beween a 14s quarter mile and a 13s time though, it requires a fairly hefty performance increase to gain even 1 second on the standing quarter. Witness the 720bhp Ultima for example, that's hitting 100mph in 5.x seconds and doing nearly 140mph over the line, yet its only 4s quicker than your pug. Also a lot of Caterfields (particularly ones without a huge amount of outright power) will have given their best before the 1/4 mile marker due to poor aerodynamics, so although initial acceleration will be much quicker than other cars that can achieve an equivalent time, they lose out at higher speed. steve_m Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 My best was IIRC 12.8s at 108mph at Santa Pod but they put sand on the line to protect it for the following weekend where they were hosting some national event, b*******s, so avoiding too much wheelspin was impossible. 12.5 @ 115mph is very good for a Se7en on a stock bike engine even if it is a Kawasaki In my car once I changed into 2nd gear I needed more power and I felt like a passenger, just had to make sure I changed gear at the right time. My current engine mods will I hope make a diference My last race was against a rather serious RWD Escort MK IV I think with a Cosworth engine making apparantly 450bhp. I pulled away from him off the line and in his words "I shot off and left him standing" but just before the finish I saw him flash by and he beat me by 0.1s. Quote
Bazzer Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 I never got a clean run that day. I either messed up the launch or stuffed a gear change. I reckon there were a few 10ths to come. Bazzer Quote
JeffC Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 when I bought my busa , I still had the zx12, we dragged them side by side up a bypass from a standing start and th busa nailed the zx12 more so once up in the speeds.. Agree is all about getting off the line Quote
ChrisG Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Yep, Thorney Island isnt the ideal venue for optimising your times because its fairly slippery, its usually an RAF runway so no special prep to the surface etc. Last year with the R1 engine I got to within a gnat's of dipping into the 12's too at a terminal of 110mph, so I'd expect a busa to be quicker than that. samcooke Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Interesting. Westfield used to quote 8.something to 100mph for the Busa, these figures suggest it takes half as long again to add just 10% to that. Is the aero that much of a problem or are Westfield 'optimistic'? Quote
ChrisG Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Hi Sam I achieved 0-100 in the late 9's on one of my runs with the R1, so yep it is suffering a fair bit above 100mph. Id say 8.x would be achievable with a Busa, but it would be much nearer 9s than 8s IMHO. I had a similar conversation on the Locostbulders list a couple of months ago, and it did sound odd that you only achieve that additional 10mph in 3 additional seconds, but if you draw a graph of acceleration against time with "known" points (ie 0-60 in ~4s, 0-100 in ~10s), the graph does roughly intersect my quarter mile speed / time of 110mph at about 13s, so its about right. Have a look at the graph here as you've got a Locostbuilders account. cheers Chris Quote
