Hi folks, I just been to a run what you brung day at 'new york dragway' near york in north york's. Mostly all modded and fast road cars being run. But there was one MK indy car fitted with a blackbird engine there,But i was dissapointed with his times. He was only managing to do mid 13 second runs and was geting nailed by MR2 gts and 2.0 Novas. I know it was a bit damp to start with and he looked like he struggled to get the power down but later on it got out dry and he still didnt do well. he usually got the first 30 meters or so on them but then he got nailed.

Any body got their 1/4 mile times for me to compare?

cheers...

12.74 @109.45

there was a video of my car and another Mk Indy doing the 1/4 on here a month or so ago.

with better tyres and conditions the car is deffinately good for low 12's maybe even high 11's with slicks.

S2000 Powered Mk Indy

the Blackbird Indy you saw is run by Mark, it's also got nos and he runs slicks but i've no idea if he was using either at york on sunday.

No he was not using slicks i know that, so i bet he wasnt using nos either. Wish he had used slicksetc i was willing him to put those pesky MR2 GTS's intheir place. By the way there was a wicked VW sirroco an old green thing, went like stink put all the modded scubys in their place when it ran 11.2

Ive done a 12.9 / 110mph with my R1 Locost and a friend's ZX12 Locost has done a 12.5 / 115mph, both on road tyres and on an ungrippy temporary drag stip (an army runway).

At the 2004 Brighton Speed Trials, Dick Hulbert did a 11.10 at 123mph while Delboy Hodder managed 'only' 11.65 @ 116mph although neither of these are exactly 'roadgoing'  :D  :t-up:

Wessy will always struggle when it gets to  70-80 mph  :arse:

drag factor must be big problem above those speeds compaired to a sleek bodied MR2  :t-up:

I agree. You need *lots* of power to defeat drag. Drag squares with speed, IIRC.

Plus drag racing is a specialised discipline, and getting a Se7en shaped car to be quick takes time and money. The quickest quarter mile Se7en is probably Dave Edmands Caterham which, last time I saw times, was in the low 10's. This is with (IIRC) a 2.2 Hart engine, Elite sequential 'box, proper drag racing spool diff, *soft* Hoosiers, 4" wide front wheels/tyres and a whole host of items put on and removed solely in the pursuit of 1/4 mile times. And because of all that it's not very good when the going gets twisty, as I witnessed at Curborough some years ago :0

as an aside, me and the missus went to Santa Pod last Saturday...first time I'd been to a drag meet since Blackbushe Airport in the late 70s  :t-up:

saw a few Top Fuel/Funny cars doing low 6s runs (it was a bit cold and overcast so I don't think the track temperature was letting them hook up that well) and a mad Dutchman (IIRC) on a rocket bike that did an arrow straight (no wheelies to worry about) 5.4s run  :suspect:  :0  :p

best bit was the noise and feeling the ground move under you as two top fuel cars went off together  :0  :D

Never been to a proper drag meet ( :suspect::D) but it is high on the list of things to do. I have seen the on the telly and the speed at which they leave the line almost seems to defy the laws of pyshics...

The drag force squares with speed, the power therfore cubes with speed.

Bah. Slow heap. James Lambert's car currently holds the record I believe (although not with him driving). It has a genuine 9.7.

Of course a 3 speed auto is not everyone's taste in a westfield.
