pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 scott im sure they are the numbers im using. im surprised at what you been told. will double check and get back to you. scott go to helix motorsport web site they only list one cover and clutch plate for westfield xe engine /road race. thats the one i use. im sure its the same part number that a friend got from QED. MAY BE WORTH A PHONE CALL TO THEM. Quote
pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Does the torque capacity of a clutch also relate to the weight of car it's in? ie...The std cover can only cope with X amount of torque when in a car weighing over a ton but can cope with more torque if the car is sub 600kg?? Come on you VX XE boys with similar engine spec....What are you using?? scott one thing to bear in mind is your engine will be more powerful at top end ,but will produce its max torque higher up the rev range.which should help your clutch a little,at the lower rev range Quote
scott beeland Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Pete. Forgive my repetetiveness (I'm on nights) but just to confirm... You are using friction plate 70-4628? Which cover part number do you have? Quote
pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 scott im using plate number 704628 cover number 124626 ordered from mardi gras motorsport in fact just got delivery of another cover today ,so i can get bottom end balanced for new engine ,before i take old engine out. god this is getting expensive. Quote
scott beeland Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 70-4628 and 12-4626 are what I've just confirmed with QED today too. That's what I'll be getting from Questmed as my exchange then. Just need to decide whether a new std. type flywheel should be bought now to make sure Quote
pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 i got a good secondhand one you can have.could bring up to stoneleigh show or do you fancy a nice ali one . got a spare £185 + postage sorry should not tempt you Quote
scott beeland Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 Helix tell me that the 12-4626 cover is only rated at 160 lb/ft torque capacity though while the 60-4626 is rated at 240 lb/ft. I'd hate to start getting clutch slip after putting it all in as the engine will be producing a whole lot more than 160 lb/ft. Quote
scott beeland Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 If i had £185 left I'd take it off you. Probably not going to Stoneleigh as I need to get engine in that weekend. Quote
pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 looks like i got the wrong one then. why they only list one on there web site. never had any noticeable clutch slip but when first fitted did smell quite a bit till bed in.or i may not fully degreased the flywheel surface before fitting. Quote
scott beeland Posted April 19, 2006 Author Posted April 19, 2006 A small bit of smile has returned to the Boghouse camp. I now know what combination of parts I need and Helix are going to test my clutch cover to see if it defective. Roll on next weekend Quote
Westfieldman Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 Helix are going to test my clutch cover to see if it defective. Sorry to wipe that smile off your face but they had my clutch the first week in March and I still haven't got it back and they are where just testing that Quote
pete g Posted April 19, 2006 Posted April 19, 2006 i wonder if you have to use a different release bearing for the cover you have. ps last time i was on rollers had 180lb of torque clutch seemed ok lets hope theres daylight at the end of the tunnel. Quote
scott beeland Posted April 20, 2006 Author Posted April 20, 2006 Helix are going to test my clutch cover to see if it defective. Sorry to wipe that smile off your face but they had my clutch the first week in March and I still haven't got it back and they are where just testing that Ah but I won't be getting that particular cover back. Helix just want it for their own QA tests Quote
