Karl Woolf Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Scott, hope you got my pm, had a similar problem, my clutch failed so removed engine put in helix clutch reinstalled. Clutch slip Turns out the westfield bell housing stops the arm from retracting fully. Cut out more of the bellhousing behind the arm, we also modified the arm to give more clearance too. Works fine now Quite a common problem I believe Keep going Scott, its worth it Quote
Buzz Billsberry Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Scott I hope you've got it sorted. I Can't believe that its taken a day to put a normally asperated 4 pot in ? XE's are easy peasy should have taken no more than 2-3 hours max... get your finger out boy Buzz Quote
scott beeland Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Scott, did you get my message about the short oil filter It will be all worth it in the end Scott Yep. we found a listed champion filter for the astra 2.0 16v that was shorter and went on no problem Quote

Bananaman Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 It'll be worth it in the end Scott.... Keep the faith........ Quote
scott beeland Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Oh the faith went a loooong time ago mate. We're now at "got to do something as it owes me a fortune" stage Quote
MuddyBum Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Don't know Pete, Still got water oil mix, got mayo only slightly in water, and mayo, ish in catch tank. Used about a gallon of fairy to shift the residue. f*****n sick of orderin Vauxhall head gaskets. Plus a rattle at about 4K on hard accel. Plus a rattle on start up, sounds like tappets, but wasn't there 100 miles ago. Goes when hot but comes back on cold start. Comps are still 200+ all round hot or cold. tomorrow will see the old head back on. Rapidly losin the will, Bri. Not sure if you are aware but early red top heads crack the oil pipes in the head causing the emulsified oil you are talking about in the cooling system. I worked on vauxhalls for about 10 years so i have first hand experience of this happening many times. We used to use a company in Wales that reworked the heads curing the problem for all time, not sure if they are still around though sorry? HTH Si Quote
pistonbroke Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 I'm saying nothing about Zetecs here, Scott would probably blow a gasket. I hope you get it sorted soon mate. Go crack open an Easter egg, and go back to it tomorrow, it'll all seem much less of a problem when you've slept on it. Kinneck , ever tried sleeping on a VX Quote
Karl Woolf Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 [All that has already been done mate and was working fine with old clutch set up (ceramettalic paddle) As a thought have you changed the fly wheel Quote
scott beeland Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 No but is has been machined flat (to get rid of a wear step) and then the clutch cover is mounted on washers Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 Am I right in thinking though that there are two (broadly) types of C20XE clutch cover. One for the early flat type flywheels, that is presumably deeper, and a shallow one for the later pot type flywheels? I know I have an Astra GTE pot type cover which fits my aly flywheel OK, but wouldn't fit the flat type flywheel on my other engine. Quote
scott beeland Posted April 16, 2006 Author Posted April 16, 2006 Dunno which my flywheel is...How do Itell? Quote
pete g Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 dave i believe there are two types of cover as you say. yet i used the early type cover on my ali flywheel. there was a slight difference in adjustment had to make a bush to extend clutch cable. scott early flywheel is flat later pot type has big lugs on it Quote
Dave Eastwood (Gadgetman) Posted April 16, 2006 Posted April 16, 2006 there was a slight difference in adjustment had to make a bush to extend clutch cable. May be, I can't help on that one though; I kept the hydraulic clutch system that I fitted for the steel ultralight flywheel and 7 1/4 clutch that I'd originally planned to use. Quote
