Mrs Westy Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 As for the flowers do you mean tubs or bunches? I think Windy was alluding to the fact that since the 'safety' measures have been introduced, there have been fatalities on that stretch of road, where there hadn't been previously? Quote
Matt Williams Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Sorry I misunderstood the flowers. Well the LA should undertake saftey audits on their schemes during and after construction these sort of things should not happen. I would hope that if the accident stats have changed someone is worried, as they could be liable for approving a flawed scheme. The risk of prosecution for highway engineers through unlawful killing is now a likely outcome if the design can be proved to be unsafe. A fatality should have rung all the alarm bells! Quote
windy Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Also one point about this road I forgot to mention is that since putting the islands in I feel it is too dangerous for me to cycle along it. At the pinch points if a lorry is trying to overtake you are pushed into the gutter. Not nice if you are on a bike, very frustrating for motorists who have to be held up until the road widens again & they can overtake you. Quote
Rob Navin Posted March 7, 2006 Posted March 7, 2006 Also one point about this road I forgot to mention is that since putting the islands in I feel it is too dangerous for me to cycle along it. If you ride a bike like you drive the escort its going to be dangerous. Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted May 10, 2006 Author Posted May 10, 2006 So, are you going for your 'Drive by' They're back, and I have been for a drive-by. Regrettably, I have to report that the damn thing DOES 'see' a Westfield, and what's more it agreed with my Halford's bike speedo. Quote
scoobydevil Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 the daily mail did a survey of hand held speed guns and it showed they are very in accurate one recorded a brick wall moving at 15 mph. and got a speed reading from a parked transit van. may be we should get a wscc meet by you motco how would they cope with 20+ westy's driving past? they should find more things for old folk to do. Guest Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 Quote (Matt Williams @ Mar. 02 2006,198) As for the flowers do you mean tubs or bunches? I think Windy was alluding to the fact that since the 'safety' measures have been introduced, there have been fatalities on that stretch of road, where there hadn't been previously As a bit of an aside, I have every sympathy for the victims and families of those killed. But I wonder just what sort of memorial is intended when, after a week or so, the hedgerow, lamp post or railings are festooned with dead vegetation and torn plastic. Seems odd to me. Quote
scoobydevil Posted May 10, 2006 Posted May 10, 2006 happen to agree with you JD there is a permanent memorial on the A41 near the duchess pub where the relatives have taped and planted plastic flowers, I too have sympathy for the relatives but find these sorts of " memorials" distracting. I have told my wife flowers are for the living not the dead. Quote
