Richgm Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 "At my own risk", means in the event of something happening to me at the wheel I can't turn round and say it's his fault for letting me drive but does mean that my insurance will have to honor it's obligations. If he didn't think it was wise he'd have said no, plus I wouldn't drive or have asked if I didn't feel capable of doing so in a safe manner. I've never had a fit or blacked out or lost total control of my body. I have lost speech and use of my left hand and leg but mentally I was still very much able to make rational decisions and have full dexterity of my right hand side. The tin tops an auto too so in the event of the unthinkable happening I am confident that I would be able to maneuver and stop without endangering myself and other road users. The other tests are in about 10 days time with the results expected about a week after that so 2 and a half weeks and I could be banned again or I may be able to carry on driving. Will keep you all posted. Rich Quote
Arm Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I can sympathise with how you feel as I paralysed my left arm and was also banned from driving. My consultant was adamant I would not have been safe and if anything ever happened whilst under his supervision we would have both been in very deep trouble. It was up to me to proove I could drive an adapted car in a safe manner and when he was happy, this was declared to my insurer and the DVLA and I got permission to drive. I was banned from driving works cars for nearly 6 months and it was even longer before I got to do any test driving. It was not good but I survived and was determined when I got my licence back I would start competing. The rest is history !! Quote
