cidersurfer Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 A guy I work with was stopped from driving too - he got his licence back in 6 months, so it may just be a short term inconvenience My mate was stopped for 12 months... Hope you get things sorted asap... Quote
oioi Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 just think if you put all the money you would be spending on westie petrol each week into a pot, what upgrades you could buy for when you can drive again. theres no reason why this should stop you doing trackdays either, you just need to get to the track. All the track days I've been to I've been asked to show my driving license. Won't his license be revoked during the period he's not supposed to drive? Or is this 'ban' just advisory? Andy Quote

Bean Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Sorry to hear about your situation. I lost my license a couple of years back following a one off fit, was told it was probably due to alcohol or stress. I was told by my Doctor I couldn't drive until one year fit free, tough at the time but I dealt with it. Got a lot done round the house. I've now been driving just over a year since getting my license back. Quote
Richgm Posted February 24, 2006 Author Posted February 24, 2006 UPDATE! I emailed the secretary of the consultant I’m under yesterday afternoon and explained that I didn’t think the doctor that I saw had made the correct decision even though I understood the reasons why he came to that conclusion and that it was going to cause me hassle with work as I work shifts, financial and social agro etc etc. I GOT A RESULT ! Got a phone call at 9.15 this morning and the consultant has looked at my files and agreed I can drive while I’m waiting for further tests. The only thing that was said is that it’s “At my own risk” which didn’t surprise me because I knew he would cover himself. But as long as I’ve got my wheels back for a while who cares. Quote

Are you totally sure you're ok to drive, from a legal aspect? I don't want to put a downer on things and I hope you'll be fine but the term “At my own risk” would concern me. Quote
Blatman Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Er, we all drive at our own risk. If the Consultant says he's OK to drive then I think that's good enough. I'd want it in writing though... Quote
pistonbroke Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 catch 22 ? or do we drive normally " at our own risk " anyway ? Quote

steppenwolf Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I hate to put a downer on this too but this seems a little too 'loose' to me. You know and we know that you will be OK but if, God forbid, something else goes wrong while you are driving, I'd hate to think that 'at your own risk' means your insurance company can wriggle out of any responsibility. To the best of your consultant's knowledge, you are either OK to drive or you are not - he needs to tell you which in absolute terms irrespective of whether it is what you want to hear or not. Quote
