deano.1 Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 I think it was said when smoking was to be band in planes at least for short hall that it would kill the tourist industry dont look like thats happened. When people get used to the fact that they cant smoke in pubs normality will be restored. People may protest by staying away for a bit but it will not last long. Is this because we have been conditioned to accept everything that is implemented on us these days In this country we seem to have a little moan and then let things fade away, especially when something new takes place of the old moan Quote
Kaz Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 All that said. I'm happier in a smoke free environment. Pubs used to have sawdust on the floor, a gent's that was a shed out the back, spitoons (the better pubs, anyway ) and didn't serve food. That was then, this is..... .....still then, I see you've been to our local in Holmfirth then!! BTW I'm all for a ban. If you want to smoke, take it outside. Quote
markg Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 i think its about time that the people who voted for this excuse for a govt shared in the misery that they inflict on the rest of us working mens and labour clubs no smoking that will do wonders for gordons time as pm. ps. dont smoke and dont really care, but i cannot help but think what will be next Quote

Vinny's Westie Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 This must be one of the fastest growing threads on here. Considering the answers its very emotive. Quote
nlash Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 BTW I'm all for a ban. If you want to smoke, take it outside. I know of three pubs/bars that are already thinking of ways round this issue by installing patio heaters and having a 'temporary' awning/marquee erected from the side of their premises. Technically, this 'area' is effectively outdoors still and therefore can house smokers. Landlords and breweries alike will look for loopholes like this so that they can continue to have smoking allowed on their site Quote
adhawkins Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 That doesn't sound like a loophole to me... It's definitely 'outside' in my book. As long as it means they're away from me, I don't care Andy Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Ah but according to Radio 4 this morning, some 'well-meaning' politico - Labour MP for Brighton -wants to ban patio heaters! So there! Quote
funbobby Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 In all this I think the results of the vote and the poll on here speak for themselves. We live in a democracy were the majority get the vote and therefore the nation has spoke and banned gaffing fags in boozers. You cant really blame just the government as nearly all polls taken over the past few years have shown amost the same results. Im quite happy to go out for a fag, its no hassle to me. Main reason to go to the pub for both smokers and non smokers is for the Drink and to socialise. Whilst smokers can do both and smoke at the moment, non smokers can do neither if they want to avoid fag smoke. Fairs fair really. I'll get my coat, Im off for a fag Quote
oldman Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 Me dentist recenly told me that she has noticed an increase in mouth cancers. She believes this to be due to smoking & drinking at the same time....food for thought Quote
Man On The Clapham Omnibus Posted February 16, 2006 Author Posted February 16, 2006 Doesn't the beer put the fag out? Seriously, though, wasn't there a sort of chewing pouch filled with tobacco - Skoles? - some years ago. They caused mouth cancer IIRC Quote
