ChrisG Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I dont have GTL , thinking of buying but not sure if its a waste of me dosh Why not download the demo for free and see if you like it then Quote
ChrisG Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 BTW, you said GPL was all free, I assume by that you mean all the updates are free, or can you actually get the whole game free now? The reason I ask is because I applied a patch to my install the other day which screwed it up. I uninstalled and now the bl**** thing wont reinstall, the setup.exe refuses to run. Quote
Richgm Posted December 22, 2005 Posted December 22, 2005 I dont have GTL , thinking of buying but not sure if its a waste of me dosh as GPL ticks all me boxes GTL is easier to master (control) IMHO. Like ChrisG said download the demo and try it. I think car control is slightly better on the proper game but it may be that I've turned off a few more of the driver aids. Quote

The demo only comes with one track (Watkins Glen ) and its not the best for learner drivers you can D/L others from various sites , its all on the readme files . The easiest track for a beginer is Monza (italian gp) 2004 demo RICH thanks I will D/L GTL give it a bash maybe this w/e could do wiv a larf Quote
ChrisG Posted December 23, 2005 Posted December 23, 2005 So you can download the 2004 Demo then just add the other tracks to it to make it into the full game? I was practicing round Cadwell the other night which was good fun, its always better to start with on a circuit you actually know even if its not technically the easiest circuit! Ive managed to reinstall it now anyway, it was caused by a Virtual Device Driver setting from an old AV package that was still sitting in the registry, the simplest way to fix it was to roll XP back to Monday and the install then worked. The only thing Im struggling with at the moment is to get the wheel set up with 2 seperate axis' for the brakes and accelerator, even if I set it to 3 axis in the Windows driver, GPL seems to treat it as two, any ideas? Rich - Ive read elsewhere that the handling in the real game (for the Lotus at least) is slightly better so I think you might be right, I found the hardest bit to get used to was when going to Pro mode, it removes braking help (basically ABS), meaning you need to modulate the brakes much more and ease off the braking effort slightly as you slow down otherwise you lock a wheel and just spin all the time. Controller pedals won’t go to split axis and three axes actually appear for the throttle and brake race simm central is your friend Quote
