pistonbroke Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 You can't beat the genuine article up: :t- Quote
StuartMackay Posted December 19, 2005 Posted December 19, 2005 Think the Alan Mann Escorts ran fuel injected Cosworth FVCs ?? Anyone remember Dave Brodie's Run Baby Run Escort and his 2 litre Vita Elan Sprint in Black JPS colours? And then there was Mick Hill's Boss Capri etc etc Quote
Boomy Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 You can't beat the genuine article up: :t- You sure can't.Sadly a game such as this is the only chance i will get to have a spank around a track in such cars, so no choice really Quote
pistonbroke Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Havn't tried GT legends , though I nearly picked it up last week from PC World but thought it looked a bit "gamey" not sure about the physics model ? I drive GP Legends and find it very useful for test drives , the game is modeled on single seater rear wheel drive cars F1 F2 F3 of the 1967 era and are not unlike we use in the westfield (particularly the comprehensive differential ramp/coast angles and gear ratio etc) It lets me play around with all the various set up perameters and although the driving thing is not the same as in real life ( you dont "feel" any real sensations) ( Gforces etc ) I find it helped me get the most from my real life westy and understand how the thing works better plus all the tracks are modelled fairly acurately to the extent where I knew Oulton Park backwards , before I ever drove there in real life Quote
Boomy Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 I had the original GP Legends when it was first released back in 1998, it was and still is what most other driving sim games are judged by.I remember hearing the Ferrari for the first time and knew it was going to be something special. Updates to the graphics ( totaly transform it! ), loads and loads of track addons and various other tweaks over the years have kept it as fresh today as it was back then of that there is no doubt. Check out just how far it has advanced if you use the updates. The 1998 original pics and the updates you can get totaly free created by fans of the game.Remember this is the exact same game and the first set of pics shows the exact same car!. Quite a difference i think you will agree. There is also a 1969 mod for it: It still is a classic, not many games had such an effect on me as that did.The first time i took the Ferrari out for a spin i realised it was something special.I even called a mate up, put the phone by my speakers and said "listen to this" as i revved it up. Of course there have been other great racing games i have enjoyed.Need for Speed on the 3D0 was a damn fine sim, not to be confused with all the other arcade trashy games that followed and used its name! The early Toca games were cool with a nice wheel, GP4, F1 challenge 99-02 etc etc. And now we have GTL, GTR, R-Factor and live for speed as the cream of the crop for many but it is nice to know GPL is still doing its thing. All i know is i waited a long time for a game to look as nice, play as well and sound as fantastic as GTL does.My subwoofer gets a proper work out from them Yank motors! Also, as with R-Factor, online racing only adds to the fun and games. PC racers never had it so good Quote
ChrisG Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 Havn't tried GT legends , though I nearly picked it up last week from PC World but thought it looked a bit "gamey" not sure about the physics model ? Ive only played the demo so far (the full game is on order from Santa ), but its got a good physics engine from what Ive seen, it is certainly a proper sim rather than an arcadey type of racing game. Put it this way, I also recently put GPL and TOCA Race Driver 2 on my machine (in normal "sim" mode) and its far closer to GPL in handling than TOCA I would say though, download a decent setup for the car if you want to make fair judgement from the demo, because if left stock setup or if you just play with the overall setup sliders, without any driver aids on its almost impossible to drive properly, very turn-in oversteery, not controllable and the back end comes round as soon as you think about braking in anything other than an absolute straight line. Boomy Posted December 20, 2005 Author Posted December 20, 2005 Have to admit i never touch the default settings, only the fuel and i have got quite used to it with my steering wheel. I do know what you mean though, but if you are ready for it and are fast enough you can control some of the more skitish rides. Quote
ChrisG Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 I would recommend giving them a go because they do totally transform the handling, I downloaded a setup that was posted by a chap in this thread and with a bit of tweaking managed a 1:16.1 for the short Dijon course which evidently isnt too bad, Im not quite quick enough to win a 10 lap race in Pro mode yet, but not far off (came 3rd about 2s behind the leader) Quote
Mark Stanton Posted December 20, 2005 Posted December 20, 2005 are these are computers games you're talkin about sorry I'm a bit old Quote

GPL 2004 Grab that demo and try it first, it has loads of updated graphics etc etc so if that runs you may be able to get the original one going too. Quote
