If it's a good fit and for trackdays then it's fine.

I'd rather have one to the latest Snell standards for racing though...

I wouldn't wear it...

You want a fibreglass or fibreglass/kevlar/carbon composite shell. Anything less may not be strong enough. And yes, I know it will have passed all the tests blah blah blah, but I wouldn't wear a plastic lid if they came free with Westfield World...

Edit:

Just checked the BS number. It's not BS6658, which is the only BS standard allowed for motorsport. If it doesn't have a Snell approval either, then all it's good for is growing daffodils...

I would :p

What do you recomend as Santa is on his way soon

I've got the previous version; nice and comfy, not too heavy and good ventillation. The only thing I've found against it is a slight tendancy to get lift at speed; though as it's the only full face helmet I've worn at speed, it may be a case of TADTS.

I think you need to ask how much your brain is worth, and spend accordingly. It takes a surprisingly gentle knock on the noggin to turn you into a cauliflower...

I am half way there already

I appreciate I only have one head and I should spend as much as i can etc but bottom line is I want a safe cheap helmet

Not that it's used for motorsport, (just to keep me a bit safer behind an aeroscreen), but just looked at the label in mine and it says BS6658 approved...

europa were selling type A approved for around the £100 mark

Ok for track days I beleive

Safe and cheap should *never* be in the same sentence when it comes to personal protection...

There is also the question of how the plastic stands up to UV exposure as well as chemicals (say the car in front leaks/breathes oil/fuel/coolant) which will have a bearing on how long it stays strong for. Fibreglass/kevlar/carbon lids are much better in this regard, as well as generally being lighter than their plastic cousins.

As a former "professional" helmet user, I wouldn't use anything less than a BS6658 lid, or a Snell 2000/2005 lid. Everything else is a risk to a greater or lesser degree...

All wise words blatters but I'm talking about a couple of track days a year and maybe a couple of rounds of the SS ?

Pistonbroke I looked on Europa's site and can not see any helmets for sale

If thats the helmet you are after they are cheaper here

Well, it's not legal for Motorsport as far as I can see, so it won't pass scrutineering...

As I am quite happy to drive on the road without a dome for most of the time [often use one to keep the rain out ]

I cannot justify the cost of snell approved , for myself !

The type A approved I use [shoei] allows me to do the Odd trackday , so far I have done 2 of these , and have to say I thought the danger of an accident was far less that on the public highway.

At least on the track no one is coming towards you on the wrong side of the road at some unimaginable closing velocity .

ATEOTD  You pays yer money  ...........bla bla bla .....

So there !

I believe entirely the opposite.

And when it does go wrong on track, you are normally going much faster, with the hittee going at 90 degrees to your direction of travel after a spin...

No need for Snell, but BS6658A should be a minimum. The lid in question doesn't have BS6658A which IMHO means it plain just isn't suitable...
