perksy Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Telly turned off, Stella out of Fridge Here We go Again.........
mg_dot Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 The tin top wasn't on a slow down lap. Given the length of the circuit at Spa, running the kerbs through Eau Rouge is hardly a huge sin anyway. Whether he had gloves on, or put a hand outside the cage may be good points, but it's rather irrelevant to the actual accident; and I can't believe people bleating about how boring it is taking safety seriously. Some people will keep banging their heads against a wall about it & for a good reason - those with decent helmets etc at least won't feel the pain
Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 i don't see any p******** contest ? not sure what there is to get excited about ............ . the honda was not on a cool down lap ,it was an open pit lane not sessioned .we never have sessioned euro days . its never been an issue and i don't think it was then
Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 and not wearing gloves is a personal choice ........ i don't wear them in the elise on track but do in the westy ,
Martin Keene Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 the honda was not on a cool down lap ,it was an open pit lane not sessioned Fair comment. Didn't realise. I won't go and delete, so as to avoid confusion. Whether he had gloves on, or put a hand outside the cage may be good points, but it's rather irrelevant to the actual accident; and I can't believe people bleating about how boring it is taking safety seriously. Some people will keep banging their heads against a wall about it & for a good reason - those with decent helmets etc at least won't feel the pain I'm all for taking safety seriously, but do we need to get quite so anal about it? I personal use an AGV motorbike helment which is BS Type A approved and has been accepted by the MSA for motorsport this season. Whilst I will readily admit it is not the safest helmet in the world is has met *all* the required standards, I also fail to believe that a helmet that cost £1000 will provide 10 times more protection than a helmet that cost £100. Life is about managing risks, I'm happy with the choice of helmet and roll bar I have, and I'm quite confident that I stand more chance of being seriously injured driving 15k miles a year in a tin top, without any protection than I do driving 1.5k miles a year in the Westfield. After all there must be countless people out there using my helmet on a bike, which is a hell of a lot more dangerous than a Westfield. Christ, you'll be telling use next, that everybody who rides a bike has to dress like a MotoGP rider... Sorry, for the rant. But, people banging on about safety, telling people the kit that have is insufficient when they probably can't afford to spend anymore is getting to me a bit. I for example couldn't consider spending £1000 on a lid, thats 20% of what the cars worth. Off soap box now...
Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 did you not see the link to a snell 2000 lid for 250 quid ?
Blatman Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 One question. Flag marshals? Why weren't the drivers warned of an impending hazard with waved yellow and orange flags? Or any sort of flag would have done. I can't see any marshals on the vid. If they were there, were they waving the appropriate flag? If they weren't, why not? Were the circuit officials warned of the coolant spillage? Were there any marshals there to be able to report the hazard? There are lots of questions to be asked outside of what the drivers involved may or may not have been doing properly...
mg_dot Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Sounds a bit like a chip on that shoulder to me - who said anything about £1000 helmets. A cheap helmet is better than nothing, better helmets cost more for a reason though.... If you don't drive on track much then you obviously don't need as much protection, no one is saying you have to spend a fortune. Having seen what happened to hs helmet though - I don't think he'd of walked away from this had he had a tatty helmet, no proper roll cage, and no proper padding. You pay the money you think your head is worth... I think it all happened too quickly for the marshalls to do anything - which is even scarier in a way.
Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 marshals post is out of site and to the right in that view at the top of eau rouge ........... they did throw yellows but it would not have saved the prelude , it obviously did car number 4 the caterham ..... immediate reds at all traffic lights and marshal posts as this is done from the cctv point . in the case of the lights . the coolant was dropped imediately before the caterham came up the hill as the caterham that dropped it was up the road a little way and stopped . nothing anyone could have done to stop that incident i'm afraid , maybe the honda was to commited maybe not , It was not supposed to be anything more than saying what can happen when minding your own business and not pushing things .
SADDLEWORTH Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 My car is like harvs and i drive with a full face helmet on the main roads
Martin Keene Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 Sounds a bit like a chip on that shoulder to me - who said anything about £1000 helmets. I did, it made the numbers easy. And there's no chips round here, I'm just making a point. My track milage this year is less than 1 lap of Spa.
mg_dot Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 IIRC his helmet was a Bell middle market type, not a £1000+ jobbie anyway
conibear Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 what sort of speed estimated of course was richard doing at impact, harv

In which case, fair enough. I guess you'd have to call it one of those things that happens when on track. C'est la vie. It ain't good, but we all know the risks...
Guest Posted October 13, 2005 Posted October 13, 2005 he was on a cool down but floors it from the bottom of the hill , my indicated exit speed as i hop the curb was 125 mph so i would guess anywhere between 70 to 100 mph , sorry to sound so vauge because we didn,t bother to look at the logger was more concerned he was ok . the lower the speed the scarier and even more aware it should make us ........ but even a 50mph impact with a tyre wall is gonna make a big mess and hurt .
