A sad reminder of how it can easily go wrong

ever read the diferences between a motorsport lid and a bike lid ?

ever seen the data that is given for the specific test carried out on a snell motorsport lid for impact with cage ?

would you like to see the padding and the lid from the impact ........... ?

i did not say everybody has to buy a snell helmet but if you go to most circuits and look at what guys racing open topped cars are wearing you will find very very few road bike lids?

Yes thanks

yes thanks

No thanks

You'll find a variety of Snell approved lids and also many many BS 6658 Type A and A F/R lids too....

Not berating anyone if the want to spend £400/£4000 or whatever on a lid....but the fact remains that you don't HAVE to spend a fortune to guarantee yer grey/white matter staying within the confines of your head.

Left hand on the rollcage on the cooldown lap not the most sensible or responsible thing to do either particularly if still carrying enogh speed to hit the tyres that hard.....And a cut off sterring wheel too for track use???? Muppet.

Getting hit by the other guy was unfortunate but then he was giving it big licks

Lessons to be learned there methinks...Correct safety equipment might have saved him and the other driver from more serious injury...but a little more "on track " care might have done them both a favour.

A few points

For all the expence on the car, cage, helmet, etc

He has forgoten his gloves [have seen this in some of his other videos so maybe he needs to buy some

Why is he putting his hand outside of the cage not a good idea or habit to get into

As has already been said stay in the car unless its on fire or there is a greater threat by staying in it he was surounded by a cage on exiting he almost gets hit with the steel tube of the cage around the head [Harv that side has no padding] so it would hurt it's like a base ball bat in this case.

Also on a slowing down lap he is running the curb [his choice]

Must type quicker

the cut off wheel has been questioned before ....... i don't think its a good idea but was done to see his dash i think ..............

i also agree that 2 hands at all times it more sensible ,though he did have both hands on when going through eau rouge.

the incident was caused by the coolant down , though the honda didn't hit it at all and i think maybe would have had his own accident anyway .....was surprised how quickly i brought my car under control and down to a safe speed  , more instinct than skill though.

Some good points made about hands outside car, no gloves, running curbs, etc. But the first thing that sprung to my mind is why was the guy in the tip top trying so hard on a slow down lap. I know Spa is a big circuit, but a slow down lap is a slow down lap, be it 400 yards or 4 miles.

Edited to add: I've just watched again, and the guy in the tin top was trying that hard, he'd gone completely over the krub and was on to the run off... In fact he probably wasn't far off an accident before he tried avoiding the Cateringvan...
